I have seen this before- several of you have posted info about this. However I am sorry and I can't find anything in a search.
So I was just wondering what exactly is a HM registry? Is it where you register with a travel agent and then people can book excursions or upgrade your room for you if you place that in your registry??
I am confused...plus is it rude to ask people not only to buy gifts from your normal registry for the Bridal Party but to spend money on the HM as well???
Sorry not meaning to offend anyone just getting all the info hahah
TIA

Re: What exactly is a HM registry???
that is pretty much what a HM registry is. a lot of people use it as an alternative to a regular registry, for example if they already live with FH and have a lot of things already. You can put $ towards your flight, hotel, excursions, etc. people can also purchase dinner for 2, massages, etc. I would love to do this since FH and I are worried about our HM expense, but there is probably already enough that we are registering for elsewhere. It is not expected that someone buy you from more than one registry though. they choose which registry they buy from pretty much.

thank you i appreciate it. i was wondering cause i would kind of feel bad telling people i have 2 different registries...I mean maybe my parents, FH parents and our grandparents would buy us an excursion or dinner for 2 but i dont want them to have to go throug the trouble...especially since my mom is paying for hte bridal party as well lol
thanks though- its a good idea for people though

Re: What exactly is a HM registry???
i think it's a great idea. especially for people who don't have much on their registry. i know someone who has their whole honeymoon paid for already. it's definitely something people should check out who are on a strict budget. it would help out a lot.

this is one thing that I just can't get past... I can't imagine myself registering for money - no matter what it's going towards.
Same with the showers when they tell you to wrap your gifts in see-through plastic..
I just can't can't fathom it.... it's so foreign to me...

Re: What exactly is a HM registry???
i think anyone interested in this should be aware that a certain percentage goes to the site and not to you.
Meaning, it may SAY they are purchasing a candlelit dinner for two - but you just get the cash amount that that would equal
so let's say it says:
Candlelit Dinner $100
your guest will give you $100 BUT the site will take like a certain percentage of that - I have seen 5 - 20% . . so you will only receive $95-$80 of that
that kind of turned me off to them! maybe some are different though!

this is one of those *know your guests* situations
if i *DARED* to ask for a 'show shower' my guests would either a. be so offended they wouldnt show up b. STILL wrap the gift in paper or c. my favorite: wrap it in clear wrap but then be HORRIFIED that i didnt open it in front of them!
LOL but if you have a different crowd it can be a cool idea - same with the HM registry!

i have to agree, its weird to me...I mean its one thing at a shower to buy things for their home but for me to pay for something towards someones honeymoon is weird, plus its a registry asking for cash basically.
I'd rather get the couple a gift that will come in handy rather than here is dinner for when you go on vacation. For the wedding i give cash but again its what i choose to do

yeah i wont do that to my guests. My family is european and i mean really european still have accents and all and bridal showers are a bit foreign to them enough as it is, thank god my MOH will help my mom with all of the planning.
His family most of them are old school italians
and then our friends are more up on these things but even my friends i think would be like HUH

Re: What exactly is a HM registry???
I think we're going to do it.
Not 100% sure....but we have a lot of stuff already (household stuff). So we don't have anything to really register for.
I have a LOT of family that feels like giving a gift off a registry is the only acceptable way to go. They don't like giving money. So since we don't have much to register for, I thought this would be a good option for them.
Even though they are technically giving us money, they'll still feel like they're actually buying SOMETHING for us.
I don't really get it myself....but hey! Why not?

do you two live together? i guess then guests would know like ok they don't really need anything. But think about your guests, do they usually give cash at the wedding bc everyone i know does, so you might just get cash anyways

Yeah, we have lived together for 2+ years. I AM thinking about my guests! I'd rather have $$$, believe me! But I know a lot of my relatives don't feel comfortable just putting money in a card. They'd rather feel like they are contributing TOWARDS something. Does that make sense?
I don't expect a lot of people to get us anything from the HM registry, but it's a good option for those guests who don't want to give money in a card.

We have the same problem. We have ONE thing on our registry. The HM registry is the hot new thing to do...but I think a lot of guests will still think it's weird.

oh ok thats different then if your family gives gifts instead of cash, even outside of NY its not common to give cash. Well your situation is different then and if they prefer it to go towards something then they'll probably be ok with this.

Re: What exactly is a HM registry???
Denise - my family drive me crazy.
Butttttttttttt.....while we're on the topic of HM registries....I'm not really sure why the HM registry is weird....?
Whats the difference? Money spent on a gift, in cash, or on HM fund is still money spent, right?
Is it really seen as strange?
(I'm not being a douche or trying to be difficult...I'm really curious. I didn't realize it was the 'hot new thing' or a weird thing to do...)

No i know what you mean, i was thinking about it after my last post, it basically is the same thing, either money you put in an envelope or money you put towards something. Some might even prefer this bc they know what the money is going towards. I guess its just a matter of it being more new and ppl just aren't used to it yet. I've never seen one, but if i did get a honeymoon registry instead of a regular registry then yeah i would definitely get something off the honeymoon registry.
For me registries PERIOD are confusing for my family, well not everyone but quite a few ppl lol. Im even worried about certain family and family friends just buying things and not even looking at the registry lol. Like i said, bridal showers period are not done so its all different for them period lol. Seriously i had to explain to my dad QUITE a few times about certain things done at weddings, e-parties, showers and all that lol.

i think more traditional ( read: older) people feel that it is a request for money and might find it rude.
Italians are big on SHOW - they want EVERYONE to know that they got the bride the ENTIRE set of silverware and they want the bride to hold it up and ooh and aah over it these people would also never give a gift card.
I am a dork too and I prefer a regular registry - i love buying something and physically bringing it! I guess i am morphing into an old italian lady
