What exactly is a HM registry???

Original post by cbcf

I have seen this before- several of you have posted info about this. However I am sorry and I can't find anything in a search.

So I was just wondering what exactly is a HM registry? Is it where you register with a travel agent and then people can book excursions or upgrade your room for you if you place that in your registry??

I am confused...plus is it rude to ask people not only to buy gifts from your normal registry for the Bridal Party but to spend money on the HM as well???

Sorry not meaning to offend anyone just getting all the info hahah

TIA

i think more traditional ( read: older) people feel that it is a request for money and might find it rude.

Italians are big on SHOW - they want EVERYONE to know that they got the bride the ENTIRE set of silverware and they want the bride to hold it up and ooh and aah over it
these people would also never give a gift card.

I am a dork too and I prefer a regular registry - i love buying something and physically bringing it! I guess i am morphing into an old italian lady

So what should I do if my family doesn't want to bring cash and I don't have a lot on my regular registry (we'll have like 5 things....)??

No i know what you mean, i was thinking about it after my last post, it basically is the same thing, either money you put in an envelope or money you put towards something. Some might even prefer this bc they know what the money is going towards. I guess its just a matter of it being more new and ppl just aren't used to it yet. I've never seen one, but if i did get a honeymoon registry instead of a regular registry then yeah i would definitely get something off the honeymoon registry.

For me registries PERIOD are confusing for my family, well not everyone but quite a few ppl lol. Im even worried about certain family and family friends just buying things and not even looking at the registry lol. Like i said, bridal showers period are not done so its all different for them period lol. Seriously i had to explain to my dad QUITE a few times about certain things done at weddings, e-parties, showers and all that lol.

Poor dad. You're still going to have a shower, right???

yeah no matter how many times ive explained it ALL to him, he still is confused lol. Yeah, just gotta inform him he doesn't get to go, i have a feeling he's not gonna like this lol.

But yeah don't take it the wrong way, i think its just something that most of us are not used to yet...And don't get me wrong, i would love to have dinners, massages and all that paid for on my honeymoon, WOW that would make things alot easier. Hmmm it might work for me, at least on my side bc they won't know its not done

Wait a minute. Is the HM registry just CASH? Or does it actually go TOWARDS something for your actual honeymoon??? Its not actually set up THROUGH a travel agency? It's 'fake'?

Maybe that's why I am confused?

you should do whatever YOU want to do - there is NOTHING wrong with a HM registry my family just likes things a certain traditional way and I don't feel like hearing it!

go for it - I am sure people will end up doing whatever they feel comfortable doing!

Re: What exactly is a HM registry???

yeah its funny cause we registered only at BB&B and when I told FH we should register at Macys or Fortunoffs as well he was like WHAT???? haha

because teh whole time we were registering he was like omg i dont want people to think they need to spend 200$ on pots or almost 200$ on china etc. Like he felt bad we were asking people to spend this money on us for household items haha he was cute but I dont think I could even ask him to make a HM registry...he would be like NO WAY IN HELL lol

that's just because he would feel awful having people spend more money or just money for a honeymoon that we would be able to afford- or should be able to afford because we should stick within our budget.

But I am not bashing anyone who has one or wants one...I just wanted to know the main idea of it all and see what it was like...

Thanks again everyone...and I couldnt even imagine registering for a HM because I didnt even know what to put on my registry at BB&B- that was another reason FH said no way about Macys or Forunoffs because we didnt know what else to register for haha

yeah like it will say

horseback riding: $100

but you just end up in the end with a total and they give it to you in cash ( well its probably a check or deposited into the account etc)

so you dont actually use it for horseback riding. . .well these are hte ones that i have looked at anyway!

Re: What exactly is a HM registry???

I know someone that did it though....and her TY's to her guests that bought them items off the HM registry was a picture of her and her FH doing whatever activity was bought for them (candlelit dinner, horseback rides, etc).

So maybe some actually DO go towards activities on your HM?

Hmm, I should ask her about it.

ETA: If we DID do it, I would HAVE to do whatever activity was bought for us! I'd feel too guilty!!!

yeah the TY is a cute idea. well...i heard that liberty travel has a HM registry.....so i would think if it is through a travel agent that it would just be credited toward your final bill.....not really sure though, lol

right - you can just take the money and actually apply it to that activity if you want!

Re: What exactly is a HM registry???

Liberty travel does them now. They are pretty common now-a-days. Some people do a HM registry in lieu of registering for fine china or expensive pots and pans. With liberty, you just open an account and people put $ on your account in lieu of cash gift. You don't need to 'book' your HM, just open the account.
