What happened to 107.1 on the east end???

I turned it on the other day to hear my favorite radio station playing show tunes! Does anyone know what happened?

Re: What happened to 107.1 on the east end???

The folks in the management decided to flip formats. They fired all the air staff for all three of their stations (107.1, 105.3, and 98.5) and revamped. They think it's a step in the right direction. It's especially sad because they had the best ratings they'd had in years, but because they refused to pay for Arbitron's services, they couldn't USE the ratings info to charge advertisers.

Sorry. New York Radio is convinced it's on the cutting edge, but all it ever does is throw listener loyalty out the window.

Why is it a step in the right direction? I'm confused because that seems to contradict the rest of what you are saying.

I do agree NY radio bites ... I'm sick of all the change.

My bad, Wendy, I didn't make myself clear.

They think it's a step in the right direction.

I certainly don't.

Thanks for the info! Im so sad, that was my favorite station! It is not like we get all that many radio stations out here to begin with and now they all play the same easy listening stuff! Thats funny that you mentioned party 105, I turned it on today on my way home from work (I can only stand WBLI for so long) and it was different too! I thought I was in a time warp or something!

The dumbest comment they made out of all of this was... 'they are making these changes to better compete against all the statellite radio listeners'.

But what do they do? They take one of their stations that was purely devoted to ONE GENRE of music (party105)... and made it into another BOOOORING top40s station.

STUPID STUPID STUPID!

Do they even realize that this is the exact reason WHY people listen to Satellite Radio in the first place? We like specific types of music... not general FM garbage.

Morons. I hope they go bankrupt.

EVERYONE! MARK YOUR CALENDARS, FOR THIS IS A BANNER DAY!!!!!!!!!!

PRINCESSROSE AND DJPILL AGREE ON SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summer, to answer your question, no, I no longer work at WLIR. DH and I moved to Delaware a few months back - Chase transferred him down. I haven't really looked for another radio job since the move. Maybe someday. I do keep in touch with a few of my old friends who worked at WLIR/TMO with me, and many of them have been fired or are solely doing production. There is no longer an on-air staff at ANY of the TMO stations. So even if I were still on the Island, I'd be out of a (radio) job.
