What happens at the Rehearsal Dinner?

What happens at the Rehearsal Dinner?

So what exactly do you DO at the rehearsal dinner? I know you give the gifts to the bridal party and whatnot ... but what else happens?

We're not sure if we should have one or not ... if we do, it'll have at least 30 people (i have about 10 family members flying in from Israel and I would def want them there + my immediate family + FH's immediate family + BMs and their hubbies)

TIA

I'm thinking more of it as a chance for both families to get together and have a relaxing meal together. We're not going all out and crazy with centerpieces and whatnot.
We're not all local, his family is mainly in the South now and mine is North. So chances for both sides to get together are slim. So for us it'll just be we got to eat anyway. So pick some place nice and just have a fun relaxing meal together and call it a night early!

I've been to two Rehearsal Dinners, and both were at a restuarant in a private room. Rehearsal dinners are great for everyone to meet and unwind before the actual wedding.

Ours is just going to be BP and spouses, immediate family, and readers and spouses.

We're having a bbq in FIL's backyard, and it'll just be a nice relaxed get together before the chaos of the wedding day And a way for FH and I to say thank you to everyone.

For us, the most exciting part is going to be the slideshow! All of our friends always do these at the RD not the wedding....I'm super excited about it and we've been working lately on gathering the right pictures!

At the RDs I've been to, the bridal party and other friends that want to speak about the couple get their chance. In my experience, it can turn into a really funny comedy routine with one of the GM as the MC and he calls up various people that want to speak.
