what is a grooms' cake?

i keep seeing posts but have no idea what that is. can someone please explain?

Groom's cakes are a southern tradition. Traditionally they were rich chocolate cakes that complemented the white, light bride's cake (AKA..wedding cake). These days, both cakes can be whatever flavor you like. Go theme-crazy with the groom's, having it made in the shape of a football, a checkerboard or anything else. The groom's cake is generally taken home by guests in slice boxes. Supposedly, single women who sleep with th eslice under their pillows will dream o ftheir future husbands!

Its a cake for the groom. You can have it at the rehearsal dinner or at the reception. I wish I displayed it the whole time like my cake at the reception.

We decided to turn our grooms cake into a birthday cake for my son.

I also had a groom's cake, but it was really a chocolate pudding pie, since that is DH favourite. Since he does not really like cake, I thought it would be nice for him to have something 'just for him.'

His cake is the heart-shaped pie

You can order it from an outside bakery. I personally thought the money charged for a fancy grooms cake was insane so I did an ice cream photo cake from Carvel.
