it all depends on the discritct and the level of your degree. a Masters can get you as much as $10,000 more than a BA. I work in Nassau - and the districts here are all different - from $44,000 to $56,000 for the same position with the same degree and the same number of year's experience! Sometimes you can find contracts online...

Re: What is a teacher's salary?
i've been doing my homework as well in this area and the best thing to do is just call the district office and ask someone in personnel... like palebride - i'm getting a variety of numbers. on that note - does anyone see a trend that high need areas pay more or less? just wondering...
Suffolk is a bit less than Nassau...and NYC is only a bit less than Suffolk...
I would say BA with no exp...around $40K MA no exp around $50K
it does depend on district...and some districts have their salary scales on their website

Re: What is a teacher's salary?
I don't know if you guys can help me, but I have a 'friend' who is a chronic liar and she tells me that she got a teaching job (music teacher) for $75,000 in West Babylon. Granted, she has her MA but she does not have tenor and has been fired from three districts already. I'm assuming she's telling this to me to 'impress me' or something but I tend to believe it's bull.

Re: What is a teacher's salary?
she's full of it. there's no way she's making that much...and if she is - I have to change to being a music teacher in west babylon!!
and i've noticed that the higher need districts pay less. i can't imagine why that is - but i guess they just have less money in their budgets.

Re: What is a teacher's salary?
sharon, that is hysterical !
you should say something like 'funny, my friend's SIL is an assistant principal there, and she was just telling her salary ranges...blah blah..' see how fast she sings a different tune. I HATE chronic liars. my friend did something similar, told us she did GREAT on an interview for a high paying mgmt position. Well they called my sister for a reference and said 'hi, we're calling..blah blah...your friend X applied for our customer service associate position' me and my sis laughed it off, but i also feel bad for people like that.. so insecure ??
Shammee I'll tell you mine...and then you can decide ;)
I was in a pretty high paying district in Nassau...step 6...MA + 30 credits and I was making $62K

Re: What is a teacher's salary?
I got a list of salaries for the East Islip teachers in the mail a few months ago. The starting salary was $40,000. I do not know how much more you get in the first year for Master + x credits.

Re: What is a teacher's salary?
I kind of figured that. She lies her ass off about everything else so I knew this was no exception. She actually had the audacity to tell me her boyfriend makes $750,000 a year as a mortgage broker, yet he lives with his father and drives a 1994 Jeep Cherokee. He bought her a $100 pair of earrings from Tri County for Christmas (I was with him) so who is she kidding!!
