I know it must be beautiful, but what makes it so much better than anywhere else (especially when we are talking Honeymoons)? I am not really sure I understand the obsession. Its just whenever anyone posts polls or questions about honeymoons its all Hawaii Hawaii Hawaii with some other places thrown in. Believe me I am not knocking Hawaii at all, I just don't really get why so many people think its the best place to go when there are so many options out there, especiall when you consider the cost and the length of the flight.

IMO... that's just it. The cost and length of flight. Some want to do that for their honeymoon b/c they don't know when they will get the chance to go on such a long/costly trip again. Plus, it is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL!

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
Well one of the major reasons we're going to Hawaii is because FH's friend lives there and we wanted to visit him. Plus I haven't been there since I was 14 and don't really remember it. FH has been there twice and LOVED it! Plus he's freaked out by travelling outside of US territories.

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
b/c people consider it a 'once in a lifetime thing' sound familiar right...the same 'reasoning' for selling your right arm to have an expensive wedding...
Hawaii is beautiful, but it's not going anywhere,...and the only thing I hope is 'once in a lifetime' is the exchanging of vows in church btw. me and my fh...everything else...big party, expensive vacation...I hope to have PLENTY of those!
wooo hooo!

That's why we're planning on going there, I originally wanted to go someplace different, just because, and my FH brought that point up.

I dunno - I never had the desire...I would just rather be an international traveler, than a national traveler.
I'm sure it's beautiful, but if you're not a swimmer (FI) or into beaches - it might not be the best place to go.

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
It's true that almost everyone says 'Hawaii' the minute you bring up where to go on the HM. It's like people think that's the only place in the world you should go on your HM.
If I had the time and the money, I actually would have preferred to go to Australia. But FH didn't want a long flight, and we can only take a week off, so Hawaii was not an option, nor was Australia.
Personally, I would much rather go to places that are not widely travelled. (Thus the reason that Curacao was almost where we booked for our HM)

I agree! Much prefer other places. FH was already there, so it was never a thought for us! But I am sure it is amazing!!

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
I'm still trying to figure it out...don't get me wrong I think Hawaii looks incredibly beautiful and I DEFINATELY want to visit one day...but its just a very popular honeymoon destination...I want to go somewhere that isn't popular...last year we went to four weddings and this year not including ours we'll have five weddings...with the exception of one couple all are going or went to Hawaii...The way we see it the chances of us going to Hawaii for a vacation are greater than the chances of us going to Europe for a vacation after we're married...JMO

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
I've just always wanted to go there, never had the desire for anywhere else. I can't explain it but I'm intrigued by the culture there more than I am at other popular HM spots. Plus my aunt & uncle went for their HM when I was a lil girl so I kind of grew up thinking that's where people go on their HMs. Neither FH nor I have ever been, so for us it's just about doing something together that's totally new to the both of us.

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
FH was all about Hawaii for the HM (his sister had gone there for hers), but I've been twice before and didn't see what was so special about it.
We're planning on going to Europe instead, since that is more of a 'once in a lifetime' for us...

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
I have been to Maui twice, my friend lives there. It is amazingly beautiful-the air-the water-the landscape. It is paradise. When I stepped off the plane in Honolulu-I could smell the sweet air-in an AIRPORT! When I walked onto the property of my friends old job - the Grand Wailea-I thought-this is what Paradise is.
We are not going for our honeymoon-but to me HI is amazing (well I can only speak for Maui). It is a long trip but worth it to me. I feel relaxed just thinking about it.

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
I have many friends who have gone to Hawaii for their honeymoons, and I hear nothing but good things. For us, it's the perfect mix of great weather, relaxing, as well as seeing many sights.
I'm not a huge fan of the carribean, neither is FH. We wanted good weather in March, and other than the Carribean, the best for that is Hawaii and the South Pacific (too long of a flight for us)

I'm going to Hawaii because I'll never get there again because of the flight and money. I've already been to a lot of islands and Mexico but I want somewhere a little bit different with more things to do and see and I've always wanted to go to Pearl Harbor. Can't wait!!!

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
Hawaii was FH's first choice for a honeymoon. He's been there before, he loves it, and he says it positively breathtaking. For me, I wanted to go someplace neither one of us has ever been so we can experience someplace brand new together (like our marriage - brand new together). He has always wanted to see Rome, Athens and Naples, so we found a cruise that goes to all those places (and quite a few more), and will in all likelihood wind up in debt for the honeymoon (not the wedding, that's covered) - but it's a once in a lifetime trip, and I don't want to live to regret not doing it.

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
We briefly thought about Hawaii, but then decided to do Europe for two weeks instead. It's nice being a honeymooner in Europe, because we got sooooooo much extra attention (which was nice!). My feelings are that EVERYONE is a honeymooner in Hawaii, so you really don't get treated any differently. Not that you go on your honeymoon to be treated differently, but it certainly is nice :) JMHO

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
I agree...I went to Hawaii about 5 years ago. Is it beautiful, yes. Would I spend 10k plus to go back, hell no !! that is JMO. I loved it and if you can afford it and stand the crazy long flight, it is worth it. I went once, would not care if I didn't go again. To me the greek isles, tahiti, those are places I would spend $$ to go to

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
I know why we're going-the surfing. We have already done Costa Rica, and Tahiti is TOOOOO far, and the airfare was insane. That leaves hawaii. I know that you can go there with children, too- and I would LOVE to return with my kids, I am sure. But it has always been Hawaii, no doubt. I am not a European traveler at all- I like tropical vacations. We dont want to go where there is no surf, because that's what we love to do, so most cruises are out.

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
im a huge europe girl park me in front of a wine bar in barcelona or a pub in london and im happier then ever..
hawaii is beautiful from what i hear- and different with regards to the volanoes and different types of beaches..i guess that makes for a more romantic setting?
im going to the caribs and when we have the money hawaii is on the list but not a priority..
what annoyne me though is that alot of people have asked 'why arent you going to hawaii for your honeymoon?' as if its the ONLY place to have a honeymoon or something

Re: What is the big deal about Hawaii?
We're going because we won't be able to take a 12 night vacation again that costs this much anytime soon, neither of us have been , we love the beach and have been to most places in the Carribean and Mexico.
