What is the largest raise you have ever asked for/received?

I am thinking of asking for a 15K raise. I hate my job and I really have somehow become the person who is in charge of everything.

That is all.

I have never asked for a specific amount before.

I would prepare. Meaning, go to the person you will meet with and bring with you proof of what you have accomplished.

If that means numbers, make a chart. If that means responsibility - spell it out. Make an outline, etc.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

I've never asked and I work in the non-profit industry, so I do get raises, but not over $10k per year.

I agree w/ Lau - show the amount of responsibility you've taken on, however you can actually illustrate it.

what i did when i asked for a raise - i udated my yearly review and added all of the repsonsiblities that i have taken on since the last review - to show a comparison.

than i went to careerbuilder and pulled up comprable job descrpitions with titles and salary ranges as back up. so they knew what i was asking for wasnt astronomical.

I've never done this...somehow I always get stuck in jobs that don't really give raises like that

$5k I negotiated this in at my point of hire - so taht at 6 months I'd get a $5k raise.

but I got a $20K increase when I switched jobs.

Tricia and Lau have it down - follow their advice and see where it can take you. Good luck!

I've never asked for a raise, but I have gotten two 10% raises (so 20% total) last year...

i get a 2% raise a year teaching the future of our world....

We teachers deserve a $10K raise every freakin' year we stick it out!

OK, I'm having a bad day today - seems like my job is just pulling me around in 50,000 directions. I'm so tired...

I just passed this exam that will change my career status significantly - I am thinking of asking for a 10-15k raise myself!!!

Re: What is the largest raise you have ever asked for/received?

After I had my first son, I hated working so far from home. I lived in Suffolk and worked in Manhasset. I was MISERABLE. So I figured an easy way to get them to shuffle me off would be to ask for a raise. FH told me to ask for 30K. What was the worst that could happen? So I did. And they gave me 25K. the increase was a half of my salary at the time. So I stuck it out for a few weeks. Then 9/11 happened and the money didn't seem so worth it anymore. So I resigned.

Ask higher. You might be surpised at what you get. It may make the job a bit more tolerable!

ETA: You could be sneaky and break it down... like 'I think you should give me an extra1000 a month.

usually the good 'ole 3% or so....I do not work in a field where I can ask for a raise (unless I want to be laughed out of the office )

That being said, go for it. If I *could* ask for a raise, I would
