What is the overall average cost of a LI wedding?

honestly, I was told by several halls that April, May, and October are their PEAK seasons meaning you'd be paying much more than any other time of year.
February and March are 'off season'

The 'average' cost of a wedding on long island is around $25,000-28,000
The national average is about $22,000

I would start talking to halls before you change your date. Discuss differant times of years and see what they can throw in for you.

WOOOHOOOO! We are just a smidge below the national average for a 150 person wedding in October. How much weight can a girl lose on a PB & J diet?

What everyone is saying about on/off peak is a little bit inaccurate. Whether a particular month is on or off peak depends entirely on the hall, and I can explain why.

For example, take my hall - Land's End. It is right on the water. Accordingly, all of the months where people want to be outside are the on peak months. Land's End considers this to be May - September. So, October is off peak for them. The month I'm getting married, August, is considered to be very much on peak. When I looked at Land's End in early June 2007, every single Saturday in August 2008 was already booked.

Then, take a hall like Floral Terrace. It is in Queens and has absolutely no grounds whatsoever. So, it is harder for them to book the summer months when most people want to be able to take pictures outside, possibly have an outdoor cocktail hour, etc. The BM at Floral Terrace specifically told us that August is NOT one of their 'on peak' months. In fact, they quoted us $100 per head including an extra hour with viennese for a Saturday night. When I looked at Floral Terrace on the same day I looked at Land's End in June 2007, they did not have a single Saturday booked in August 2008.

So, it just depends on the type of place you are looking at.

It's a good generalization to say that May - Sept are going to be on peak at most places. But, whether those fringe months like April and October will be on peak really depends on the hall. And, as I said, there are also exceptions for the very HOT summer months like August. So, if you want to know about a particular place, just call and ask! I'm sure most places will be glad to let you know what is considered on/off peak to them.

for 150 people, i would guess the average to be between 20-30K, if you are trying to keep things reasonable while still having everything, i.e. dj, video, real flowers, limos, etc.

best prices you usually can do thursday evenings or daytime off season (like, Nov.-March)

YOU HIT IT ON TEH HEAD! When I said April and Oct. were cheaper that must be because CLM is on teh water! May-Sept is 115pp on Sat night and April and Oct. were 85 pp

I got an awesome deal on my RH....paying under 100 pp with every upgrade possible! But still we have 250 people and its not so much the RH but all the other crap that adds up quick....

I have all these things that I never thought of before that I simply MUST HAVE now...lol! My budget is out the window and I'm looking at a minimum of $45000....its crazy!

My wedding is costing 15-17K including honeymoon.

we have invited 110 people..

Yes we had to cut back but I cant MYSELF justify spending more then that on 5 hrs..

I wish I could and you ladies who are more power to you..(im just a tad envious lol)

since my wedding just passed ... i can honestly say all in all we paid $12k for everything ... we got a pkg deal deal for 100 guests but if we needed more it was $60 p/p ... i can't say enough how great my hall was ....

i am having a small wedding & no bridal party.. so i figure about $25K.. i actually thought Oct/Nov would be cheaper than april/may.... how wrong i was. Nov was the most expensive month.

I got a great deal for a sunday night wedidng at the end of april.

withOUT counting HM, ours will be about 25-30K

Figure out what things are important to you and set a budget.

for example, i could give a rat's a$$ about flowers so I wanted the cheapest thing possible (without it looking cheap)
Photography, I'm willing to spend a little more on.

Try your HARDEST to stick to your budget, but leave a little for 'extras'

things you never thought you needed but WANTED... lol

Because we started our planning in May for a Sept wedding, we saved a TON on the RH...

If we don't get anymore no's, the cost is at about 28,000. I know a very scary #. We cheesed out on a few things to, like flowers... we are getting low centerpieces not the tall ones. We got a package photographer too. I just hope he is good!! My Fh kinda picked him.

Oh thats w/o honeymoon.

30000 $ ? That's half of what people make on average in a year!
Why would I spend so much money on one day in my life? One single day that most people won't remember after a year anyways?
Is it about the wedding or the marriage? Starting the marriage with debts? OMG...

well, we will spend about 2000 $ including beautiful wedding bands AND will have the people we love most come in.

We're getting married in November and found that only some places cut their rates in November--some don't until Dec, Jan, Feb. It depends on the place. If people are attraced to it b/c of the property..spralling acres, outdoor ceremony/cocktail hour, water view, it's going to be pricier in the spring and summer, but will most likely bend a little starting in November.

Same here. Some started to lower a bit in November (but not as much as they would in December, January, February), but some didn't lower at all for November. October is definitely primetime, and I think April is probably about the same too.

Our 200 people wedding on a Saturday (day) in November was about $50K. This includes everything.

Our is costing about $45,000 for a Sat night in Sept. Definately went over our inital budget. The hall was more expensive than we thought, but it was the place....from the moment I walked into it I knew. We are not really skimping on anything, but we are not paying crazy prices either. Just everything combined is alot. And this is w/out HM.

Every now and then I think WOW thats a lot of $$ and I get scared cause we are paying by ourselves, but it will be a day we always remember!

we have budgeted about 77000 for our wedding without the honeymoon...
our RH is about 45000 alone...

i wish we were only going to spend aobut 30k-50k but i do not see how it is possible with 250 guest and our RH after all taxes cost 185pp...and it is a november wedding
