What is the overall average cost of a LI wedding?

just curious. We are starting to look at halls now and I'm wondering what is the least possible amount of money we can spend on 150 guests.
I know time of the year plays a huge factor so we are leaningaway from our original july 2008 date. april and oct are much cheaper.

Really depends on where you have it. You don't have to stray from the date you want but when you visit RHs ask waht the prices may be that time of year and have a back up date to ask what if we did it in different season. Someplaces wil have a major difference season to season. Some are fairly consistant throughout the year. Also, Definietly consider Sundays! They tend to be much less expensive, we're saving about $40/person by having it on Sunday afternoon!

Mine in total.... and not skimping on anything..even got my chair covers!!!!.
including everything but the dress...
honeymoon, flowers, dj, minister, favors... etc.

28,000-30,000

I think it has alot to do with the place you choose, and how much they are willing to work with you....
I have to say Larkfield manor beat out alot of RH''S
with what they include.

The best price quotes I got were around $90/ head befiore service fees in November (not October which is usually a peak month). These places were CLM, Thatched Cottage, Hamlet CC, Larkfield Manor

In all honesty, april and october were more expensive for my hall. Thats when I wanted to get married. July and Aug was considerably cheaper! Obviously, winter months are the cheapest!

I read that the average cost of a wedding is 38,000 for the northeast region that was including NY. But i also read 30,000 in another.

I am getting married in MAY witch is a peak month and i havent gone over 20K yet! i will but not by much once everything is done! If you negotiate with vendors and cut corners where you can you can def do it alot cheaper than most people. We cut out flowers except for the bridal party its just too expensive when you are paying for a wedding all yourself!
I cant beleive what some people spend for 1 day!!!! i know its your wedding but WOW i refuse to start our new lives together in debt lol!!!:

We are budgeting $35-40k. I am a party planner by profession, so here are some things I thought of to help you.

1. Obviously, off-peak (January, March, April, November) months are cheaper, but if you are set on a specific peak month, find out what their flexibility is. The closer to the date, the better chance you have of getting a good price because they want that room booked at any cost as opposed to having it empty. Also, if you are flexibile with the time/day of the wedding, the price will be less. Pick an off-peak month or day and they will literally slash prices. Consider a Saturday or Sunday day wedding. Also, if there is a weekday holiday, you will get an awesome deal. I booked a March wedding for a client on a Saturday night with a guarantee of 80 for $65 pp (this was at the 3 Village Inn in Stony Brook).

2. Do as much as possble yourself, and use the Internet to buy things like favors, accessories, etc. I found a dress I love that is $730 in stores and $425 online. Know that you can find pretty much anything you want for cheaper somewhere else.

3. Recruit friends and family members. My soon to BIL is a fantastic amateur photographer and is doing our engagement pics (if he wasn't the best man, he would do our wedding too). Ask for friends for recommendations or for family members to offer their services.

4. Don't be afraid to ask for discounts. Ask your hairstylist if she offers a free trial before booking, get a free makeover at a makeup counter, or ask about bridal party discounts. Same with tuxes, smaller mom and pop stores can afford to throw in a tux for the ring bearer, etc.

5. Don't be intimidated by salespeople for any vendor. If their price is too high, say so on the spot, and I can almost guarantee that they will drop it righ then and there. They want your business and they will do whatever they can to get you to book. When I booked weddings and a bride was stalling, I would throw in things like a Viennese table, discounted chair covers, upgraded cakes, etc., to get them to change their mind.

6. Decide what is most important in your budget. I don't need a $5000 dress by any means, and I would rather spend a lot less and use that money elsewhere. Once you know where to allocate your money for specific things, it will be easier to make your decisions. If flowers are going to be a main focal point, spend a lot there. If the dress is important, spend it there, etc.

These are some things I thought of off the top of my head, but I am sure I will think of more. Just be confident in your choices and sticking to your budget will not be that difficult.

Believe it or not, April and October are not cheaper than the summer months! This was very much to our surprise when we started looking for halls for October and every single hall told us that October was prime season! (We were like, REALLY???) The did tell us that from the second week of November through the end of March is the 'low' season when you can get the best prices, with January and February being the most economical.

Day of the week will also play a huge role in the total cost. Thursday evening will be the least expensive. Sunday afternoon seems to be the next least expensive, with Friday night and Saturday day being about the same (Saturday day being less at some halls). Saturday evening will be the most expensive.

So keep this in mind when booking.

Average cost??? I don't think there is such a thing when it comes to LI weddings! Some people have $15000 budgets and some have $100,000 budgets. I tend to think that $30-50K would be about average but no way to know for sure.

over all we'e looking at 20k.. but it's hard cause fh is a groomzilla and wants party buses and helicopters and ish.. (no im not kidding) he wants a platinum wedding on a silver plated budget.. but i'm straying..

i was also told that oct to dec is NOT cheap.. especially dec.. mostly cause of corporate holiday parties.. i got my rh down to about 60 pp before tax and that' in feb on a sat night.. so that was pretty good... if u'r looking to keep u'r price down stay flexible on u'r date.. and consider some of the ladies who are selling their dates.. if u're willing to do may at JT i think someone up here had a date for sale....

and then u keep costs down by doing a lot of things urself! like the diy eannouncement, or the eparty invites, or favors.. things like that..

oh i'd also suggest prioritizing whats most important to u.. and then go from there.. video and photographer is way more important to me than flowers.. dj is more important than limo.. and the food at the hall more important to me than the invitation.. so i'm putting money on the more important things..

look into brent wood country club too they have a 10,000 package deal for 100 guests and it is beautifl. then you just pay like $60 pp after that ( not 100% sure on the price but its def 10,000 for 100

TOO MUCH.

My wedding has now exceeded about $50,000 and I don't think I went too crazy w/ anything. But the hall is close to $30,000 so that right there will do it. And I am getting married on a Friday night, I couldn't imagine if I was doing it on a Saturday night

for a 100 people not counting the honeymoon we are 15-16k but i am not paying for my dress which was 1k w/ alterations. Everything else fh and I pay for 100%.

I am having it on a sunday in march - we are married in the hall (saved)

no decorations at the ceremony (saved)

besides the wp no else gets flowers (saved),

transportation is my bros luxury van (saved),

didn't go for extras for the reception (saved) who the heel needs
extra food at a wedding!,

DYI (saved),

Centerpieces are nice and VERY pretty but not over the top (saved) $65 per table

Didn't go nuts with the dj (saved) *** is up with a smoke machine come on i want people to see me not choke to death. And i am no at a disco don't need tons of lights i gave up the club scene years ago.

I think honestly for a nice but not over the top wedding you can really do it for 15k depending on the time of year and what is really important to you. To me i wanted to get the best but couldn't afford the best for all my vendors. We picked CLM because we loved it there and it was within our budget. I am not going to lie if i was rich i would do it at oheka castle.

Our wedding for 100 people in January - is going to run us $14,740. The only items we're getting help on are the floral & part of the video from my parents - the rest is all us.

If you are willing to move to Jan/Fed - it would be even more cost savings...

We are well over our $40K budget by about $20K and we still have the last things to do...like favors and such. We didn't skimp on anything but we did not go above and beyond, in my opinion, on anything. I think when we initially made our budget we were just so uninformed about the reality of costs on long island that our budget (haha) was so off. It's all good though.

Re: What is the overall average cost of a LI wedding?

We're getting married in November and found that only some places cut their rates in November--some don't until Dec, Jan, Feb. It depends on the place. If people are attraced to it b/c of the property..spralling acres, outdoor ceremony/cocktail hour, water view, it's going to be pricier in the spring and summer, but will most likely bend a little starting in November.

Good luck!

Re: What is the overall average cost of a LI wedding?

Our wedding was about 30k which was the amount we budgeted for. I refused to go above that. I knew we could afford to go over, but I wanted to have savings left over to buy things for our new apartment. Luckily had help from our parents, splitting it three ways.
