what is the standard gift if you are in the bridal party?
Original post by dbcrosby
FH is the best man for his best friend. they are getting married 2 months before us and money will definatly be tight because we are saving up for a house. His best friend told us the other night he expects to get $1000 from each of the people in his bridal party. isnt that a bit much considering how much money FH will put into everything else for the wedding? or is this standard?

Holy S***! That's ridiculous. What a nerve to think that anyone is going to give him that much, especiially someone woh is already spending a lot of money by being in the bridal party!

it's very rude to tell people how much they should give you, I should think having you there to share in their special day should be more important than how much a person can give. I gave my sister $500 because I was her moh and we are close. when i was bridesmaid I gave $300-$350 depending upon what I could afford at the time. Give what youc an afford and feel comfortable giving. $1,000 is absolutely insane!

where the heck did he get that information from?? If that were true I would have received $18,000 on my bridal party alone!!!! It is definitely not standard and I think he is in for a big surprise! In our wedding party we recieved gifts from $150 - $500.

is this guy crazy? It's the thought that counts.
1000 dollars?.. Be serious.
Maybe if the last names involved in this are Trump and his buddy is named Rockefeller.
I believe the standard is 150 -250. That's a very generous gift to give.

What 1000k, I dont think so. We recieved $200 to $500 from couples in our bridal party and I thought that was extremely generous

ONE THOUSAND??????????
He's insane, I'm sorry!
I think it should be at least the same as what others give (others meaning guests) and maybe a bit more since he's in the wedding party but if you can't then don't.
I hope you accidently put one too many zero's in there!
And how rude for the groom to 1) expect that and then 2) announce it to your FH that he expects that?!?
The most I ever gave was $300. Jen & Dale is right - BP shouldn't have to give anything since they are shelling out money for tux and gowns and other things. They are helping out in other ways. I'm shocked by your friend's attitude.
