So I have an interesting question. Over the weekend my fiance and i received our first gift off our registry!! However, i know that my shower invitations havent even gone out yet and my wedding is still four months away.
Is this an early wedding present? An early shower present? Or a 'just for the hell of it' present?
Its from my friend from college who im not that close with.
AND, If its a wedding present, do I wait until i get my thank you cards and send her one AFTER the wedding like everyone else? That would be like 6 months from now!
If I sent her a thank you now and then she doesnt give me a gift, I would have sent her a non-wedding thank you card!
Ahhh! lol too confusing for Monday morning!
Help!

Re: What is this present?
I;d just send her a basic thank you card. I wouldn't wait. She made an effort to send you a gift this early, you should send her thank you right away.

Then if it turns out to be the wedding gift, just send her another thank you for coming? Or nothing??

send a TY now and then if it is your wedding gift send her a wedding thank you for coming to the wedding. But the gift should be acknowledged now cause otherwise she might not know you received it.

Re: What is this present?
I would send a thank you note so they know you've received it. If you waited until after the wedding they might either think:
1) You never received the gift or 2) They might get insulted if they know you received it and they received no thank you.
I would send a TY note right away.

ITA. she sent it early and deserves a thank you for that. if she attends your wedding, then just send her another one for attending.

Re: What is this present?
Traditionally, the really wealthy people engaged in the practice of sending gifts during the year before and after the wedding. E.g. if you get married in July 2010, they can send you gifts from July 2009 through July 2011 and it technically won’t be a “late” or “early” wedding present. Don’t know if your friend is really well off, but maybe she was following that trend?
I would still send a thank you card now – just a generic one. Then be sure to send her another one when your formal TYCs go out.

i don't know if i would consider this a wedding present or not, but you should send her a thank you note now thanking her for the gift. if she gives you another gift on the wedding day, then send her a wedding thank you note.

Re: What is this present?
Was there a note? I received several monetary gifts early from people who could not mak ethe wedding. I sent them the photo TU's . It ended up being at least 6 months after as well. Mayeb you could speak with her & say you received the gift & TU & ask if it was for everything or fo rteh shower. Its doesnt hurt. Hope it works out.

Re: What is this present?
I have received gifts all year long and always send a generic thank you note immediately.
I say thank for the XXX, say how we are going to use it, and end it with, 'we are looking forward to celebrating with you soon' if we aren't sure if they are invited/coming to wedding or 'we are looking forward to celebrating with you in July' if they are coming to wedding.
I make no reference to what type of present it is-- engagement, shower or wedding gift!

ITA. I think it's better to send 2 thank you's then to maybe hurt someone's feelings over this confusion.
