Re: what is ur cake!

We have not chosen our cake yet. I've made cakes covered in fondant and the fondant is usually placed over buttercream since they use that as a crumb coat. I do not personally like fondant and most people don't, but it is a good medium to use for wedding cakes because it offers a lot of flexibility and gives a nice, smooth finish to the cake. I have yet to talk to FH about this since he feels like I have more knowledge on the subject.

FYI-Collette books up really fast, so if you are interested in hiring her you should call ASAP...and since she is one of the top bakers in the country, she is also pricey.

yes i know, im calling her in a few weeks which will be about a year before my wedding...i checked already to see when i should book with her and how far in advance...Yes i know how much her cakes cost...its a minimum of $800 you must pay if you want a cake from her...and the lowest it can be is $8 a slice and thats for a more simple design...average is $10-12 a slice and even more for more complicated designs

I voted for fondant, but we are having a 'show' cake that has fondant on it and then the cake that is served will have whipped cream

I missed that, but they always have stories like that on the Food Network. My latest thing is Ina Gartner because she used to be a budget analyst too and she liked to entertain, so one day she decided to up and leave and buy a store and start doing all that for a living.

I am such a dork!
