WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH YOUR MOTHER

Original post by shamma

If you could change something about it what would it be.

My mom and I are friends, we are close, we talk about everything, she got preggo when she was 16 and we have been like 2 peas in a pod. When she left me at 9 yrs to come to America, I think it broke my heart, but after we were reunited 6 yrs later it was the best day of both our lives. My mom and I share clothes, shoes, everything. I would not change a thing. She taught me about men, fashion, being a lady, she gave me the self confidence that I have and all this self esteem that I have. For that I am forever greatful to her. I love my mom so much, it was the hardest thing moving away from her to go and live with hubby. If I never got married I would still live with my mom. Not a day goes by w/o me speaking to her or us telling each other we love each other. When they made my mom, they broke the mold. She is the best.

Eroxgirl - I do the same thing to my mom sometimes - treat her like she used to treat me. But then after my parents both retired, mom started to change a little. She started to loosen up, and since I got engaged she's been a lot nicer to me and has paid more attention to me. It's still weird when she hugs me though. It doesn't feel natural. I'm trying to let the walls down, but it's very hard .

I wouldnt change anything relationship wise. The only thing I wish that is that I lived closer to her. I am about a half hour 45 min. ride from them

My Mom - God bless her soul - passed away 3 years ago.
We were Best Friends, SOOOOO close..........
I miss her like crazy b/c we shared everything.

I would even go to her when Len and I had issues, and she would PRAY for our relationship.
I told her so much.
She was really my Best Friend, my confidante, my advisor, and my gossip partner, LOL. She would give me the best advice - things would always turn out the way she said.
I looked up to her so much b/c she seemed so darn smart.
In my adult years, I learned how much unconditional love she had for me and my siblings and how many sacrafices she made for us.
That made us soooo close.

I know she is still with me. Like Kathy said, I still feel her, each and every day. I wore her wedding band on my thumb for my ceremony, and it really put me at ease.
I think that's the reason I didn't cry.

If I had to change one thing, it would be that she was here, alive and healthy bringing joy to my days.

Re: WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH YOUR MOTHER

I do not have a relationship with my mother. She is a selfish, jealous, manipulative, miserable person who takes great pleasure in hurting me. As a child it was physically & verbally...as an adult it has remained verbally. She has told me lies about my father, grandfather & grandmother in an attempt to get me to hate them all too. She has accused me of having an affair with her (now ex)boyfriend, she has accused my father of rape. My stomach drops every time she calls - I *never* call her. I have tried everything to change how I react to her in order to make things easier - therapy, not speaking to her - nothing works. She would rather blame everyone else around her for her 'miserable' life than take responsibility for herself. I do not wish her harm - anymore - but I do not wish her to be in my life. She manages to turn everything beautiful, ugly.

Re: WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH YOUR MOTHER

My mom is my best friend.. It's sd because for a time during my adolescence, I took my mother for granted.. She still remained by my side ALWAYS.. my mother gave up her life as an actress/dancer, to raise me and I'll never forget that...It took me a long time to realize what my mother means to me and to be honest, whwnever I think about any of the pain and worry I must have caused her, I just want to cry...

My mom is my everything and I couldn't live without her... She is my little gem!

Me and my mom are best friends. She had me young (16) and was diagnosed with cancer a year later and became infertile (if she didn't get preggo so young she would never have had a bilogical child). I can tell my mom ANYTHING and know she would never judge me. I admit, my teenage years we clashed a lot, but now that I am older I am much more respectful of her and how tough of a person she was to battle cancer and raise a toddler being under 20. I never could've done it.

Re: WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH YOUR MOTHER

That's ok Lizlen - I have an amazing dad, a wonderful stepmom and a sister that I don't know what I'd do without. I have a very fulfilled life wrt family in spite of my mother.

I'm almost envious of everyone that can say that their mom is their best friend. That's all my sister & I ever wanted with our mother...but, unfortunately, she's a sick woman who refuses to get help. We're just happy that we have eachother - at least someone else was there who can understand. You know?

Re: WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH YOUR MOTHER

I have the same relationship as Anniegrl.

I think my mom is pure evil. She never smiles, and on the rare occasion that she does it looks unnatural! She never paid any attention to me, and was jealous bc I was/am daddy's little girl. My dad is awesome, but she just nitpicks at every little thing he does-its no wonder he likes me better!

When I was younger she wouldn't let me participate in any extracurricular activities bc she was too lazy to pick me up (If i missed the bus shed say 'tough luck'-keep in mind she sits on her ass at home all day!) and I ended up getting fat. She would make fun of me, tell me how fat I was, not let me eat certain things (like cake for a B-day or something). Then when I starved myself silly she told me I was gonna die bc Im a 'G-d **** anorexic'. Nice right???

She is better now, but I still hold all that resentment towards her. She thinks she was a model mother! When I bring up how she was to me when I was a chub she says its bc she didnt know any better. Ummmm OK!

She's been a huge pain in the ass with the wedding too-so i purposely do the opposite of what she says and dont give her a say in anything!
THANK GOD for my DAD!!!

Re: WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH YOUR MOTHER

I am not close to my mom at all. It's a long story, but it has t do with her mom, my grandma. My mom was always treated like garbage by her. Every chance she got she put her down. When she decided to go back to college she said ' Why bother you are not going anywhere with it. You shouldnt have an education'. This type of abuse trickled down and she started doing it to me. In highschool I weighed 125lbs, well she used to call me fudgy the whale, she always made sure she told me how fat I was. Now I am 225 an every chance she gets she says can't you go to the gym. Why dont you jion a gym. She never believes anything I tell her, she thinks its my goal in life to lie to her. In HS she stole $500 from an account that was in my name only by forging my name. She would tell my aunt, like last christmas we said we would be there for dessert, she told them we would be there for dinner. We did not how up until 9pm because that is when dessert was. We walked in and everyone said we thought you were coming for dessert? Just recently at easter she told my grandparents that we were coming when I said there was no way we could come because DH did not have monday off and they live in Delaware. Plus DH has to be at work 4:30 am.

I am so sorry....I juest kept going and going. TY everyone for the vent.

I did not mention what she did when I ordered my wedding gown, Thats a looonnnggg story!

That which does not kill us does make us stronger. Time hopefully will heal all wounds.

Hugs to all the ladies with less than ideal moms

Hugs to all the ladies whose moms have passed away

I thank God each and every day for my mom. As I was reading all these I felt happy and sad all at once. Everyone that comes to our home never wants to leave, they all call my mother mom, she is excellent. I am willing to share my mom with all of you.
