Okay Me and FH have been engaged for a while now. If everything goes according to plan, we will be moving into a new apartment by September 1!!! (cross your fingers for us) We've been wanting to throw some type of party, but what kind of party should we have?? An engagement party? Housewarming? Jack and Jill shower? A combo of all of them? We registered last night and were looking at each other completely puzzled when the girl helping us asked if we were planning to have a party...

i think i would stick with the shower.. but you can have it at your new apt.
I think people would be more apt to purchase gifts from your registry if its titled a 'shower' than a housewarming party.
you could def make it jack and jill if that is what you prefer

ditto - and ask someone to throw it for you (even if it's at your place), that way they can put the registry cards in...

The sad part is we were clueless about what to really register for, since we're buying alot of things we need ourselves. We've been talking about an engagement party for the longest, is it weird to have one if you been engaged for a while? And is it too early to throw a shower? We're not getting married until next year.

I would say have a house warming. How long have you been engaged? You might be able to mix the two.

we were engaged for a year before we had a party.... there was a lot of drama involved....

I say go for it. You would be inviting the same people to both anyway (for the most part). If you want an E Party and you need a housewarming combine them.

Can you do the housewarming party and have your family tell the rest of the family to 'surprise' you with gifts from your registry? Like have them hint that 'Oh, they registered here for the wedding, so I'm going to get them something from there since I know they need it.' type of thing.

i say have the housewarming.. the wedding isn't till july of 2008 so u have plenty of time to do the shower later.. say mid year of next year.. u and u'r fh could do a memorial day wedding shower..
and in the meantime mid oct you could do the housewarming..

And if you are buying stuff now.. then just keep things to a minimum. Like buy a set of 4 dishes and only buy a few towels.. this way you can put those on your registry. you can also do a honeymoon registry

LOL im such a punk with things like this. They gave us the little registry cards and I dont think I'll ever hand them out. I'd love a party...the gifts would be a bonus.
