What local Banks don't charge monthly checking fees?

Commerce just charged us $15 for the month b/c my account hit $96 for ONE day during the month..W T F ?? They require you to keep $100 in at all times to avoid fees.

Hello- I took $4 more of MY money than you would have liked me to and you charge me $15.?!?!?!

The nerve!!! It's not like we dont have $$$$$ in savings.

So,we are looking for another bank to take our $$ elsewhere.

Which ones have totally free checking? Any advice?

TIA

when i had washington mutual, it was totally free. we now have citibank, and they don't charge us any fees either. we even once had to dip into the $250 cushion they give you if your balance falls below $0 in checking, and they didn't charge us for that either.

I have an account @ HSBC & Wamu & neither charge. Your bank may have a free checking account, just ask them, & if they dont make the switch.

WAMU - you dont have to have any kind of minimum

And now they do free checks for life - so you dont have to pay for checks either (as long as you take the standard print ones)

Right, Citibank doesn't charge a monthly fee. Do you have any other accounts? The only thing is, I don't remember now if you must have a combined amount of a certain amount that they don't charge you. Also, you can get overdraft and not worry if you happen to go over which is great to have.

it's recent, like in the past year or so. I was royally PO'd because one of these reasons I signed on with Commerce was the no fee thing.

and even if you have overdraft, they still charge you if you go under $100

Thanks!

Commerce it is free, but if your balance goes below $100 they charge a monthy fee. Which is nuts if you ask me b/c it's MY $$. Not like I was overdraft.

i noticed that they charged me $15 in july and it said cycle charge - so i figured whatever its $15 it must be a yearly fee or some crap - but i did go below $100 in June - so im guessing that is what the $15 was for - ughhhh this *****.....on purpose i put AS much money into my savings as i can - even if it means i only have $50 in my checking account now i cant do that anymore? W-T-F now i want to switch banks again

Thanks. Yeah,we have a savings w/ $$$ in it but its a balance per account, so they tell me And they dont offer overdraft.

that's it! they call it a cycle charge. I was SO mad. I started transitioning my money to Bank of America since that's where our joint account is, but haven't made the full switch yet.
