What local Banks don't charge monthly checking fees?
Original post by ChristineAaron08
Commerce just charged us $15 for the month b/c my account hit $96 for ONE day during the month..W T F ?? They require you to keep $100 in at all times to avoid fees.
Hello- I took $4 more of MY money than you would have liked me to and you charge me $15.?!?!?!
The nerve!!! It's not like we dont have $$$$$ in savings.
So,we are looking for another bank to take our $$ elsewhere.
Which ones have totally free checking? Any advice?
TIA

omg i have a commerce checking - i didnt realize that $100 is the minimum balance you need in there....i have to check my statements, i feel like ive cut it close to that and i dont remember being charged anything
it's recent, like in the past year or so. I was royally PO'd because one of these reasons I signed on with Commerce was the no fee thing.
and even if you have overdraft, they still charge you if you go under $100
i noticed that they charged me $15 in july and it said cycle charge - so i figured whatever its $15 it must be a yearly fee or some crap - but i did go below $100 in June - so im guessing that is what the $15 was for - ughhhh this *****.....on purpose i put AS much money into my savings as i can - even if it means i only have $50 in my checking account now i cant do that anymore? W-T-F now i want to switch banks again
that's it! they call it a cycle charge. I was SO mad. I started transitioning my money to Bank of America since that's where our joint account is, but haven't made the full switch yet.
ERRRRRRRRRRR im so mad!!! just because i like to leave as little as possible in there between paychecks so i CANT spend it KWIM? and now i cant do that anymore - this s-u-c-k-s

Right, Citibank doesn't charge a monthly fee. Do you have any other accounts? The only thing is, I don't remember now if you must have a combined amount of a certain amount that they don't charge you. Also, you can get overdraft and not worry if you happen to go over which is great to have.
Thanks. Yeah,we have a savings w/ $$$ in it but its a balance per account, so they tell me And they dont offer overdraft.
they do; i have a $500 overdraft with Commerce.
but you said they still charge you if you go under $100?

we use bank of america and our checking is free as long as you have one direct deposit per cycle. we both have our checks direct deposited so it works out nicely for us!

yes, that is why they are RETARDED. I got overdraft way before they implemented the cycle charge because i'm a scatterbrain and bounced a check. so my check won't bounce anymore but I still get the cycle charge if I go under $100

That Stinks.
Most credit union will not charge (Teachers Federal credit union & Nassau Educators federal credit union as examples), & WAMU I know doesn't charge. Chase charged me a monthly fee on my business account after a year so I switched that quickly

Check out Citibank. They can link all of your accounts and there will be no fees, and free overdraft of $500. The guy tried to offer something else recently where he said I would gain more interest than with the savings...I can't remember. I'm leaving it as for now. What you're bank is doing is nonsense!
