Re: WHAT MADE YOU

We chose John Anthony's for two main reasons besides the fact that it was in the right price range:

1) It was on the water and has gorgeous views; and

2) In October of 2001, FH attended a fund raiser at JA's that JA's paid for COMPLETELY to raise money for a NYPD cop whose wife worked for Cantor Fitzgerald and was killed on 9/11. The entire thing was 'on the arm' meaning JA's picked up every single expense so that all $$ raised went to this man who was left with 2 children under the age of 3 (he had to leave his job to care for his children). That meant a lot to FH - cops get the shaft way too often in this city (in the press etc) and this was an enormous act of kindness by JA that impressed FH a lot.

We chose the Watermill. It was the first place we saw & we loved it. But decided to look further since it was out of our price range. Finally after seeing two more places, we returned & booked w/ the Watermill. We decided to splurge on that, since it was important for us. We can budget on everything else. The food is awesome, and all the people I know say the service is impecable. So we know we won't have to worry that day.

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

Our reception will be at the Westbury Manor, but it wasn't my first choice. My first choice was the Fox Hollow, but our day was already booked.

Westbury Manor was the next choice and than the Swan Club. I brought FI to Westbury Manor and he knew it was the one that I wanted and we signed the contract then and there.

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

we chose the Vanderbilt Mansion (after seeing 9 other sites) because it had most of what we wanted (on the water, nice decor, old-style house, great place for outdoor ceremony, but really nice indoor too) AND most importantly, because it just felt right and good. i think that was mostly because Carolyn was so calming and relaxed, not pushy and very service oriented. the caterer has a great reputation and they are tasteful and very professional and you just feel like you are in good hands. i really liked Lands End too (same caterer), but unfortunately, they couldn't/wouldn't meet with me on the one weekend i was in town looking at sites. Carolyn came in on Sunday! That is service! Good luck!

We chose Crest Hollow based on the wonderful response and great treatment we got from the banquet manager we met with. Very respectful, he worked with us, listened to us, and gave us what we needed for a good price. We also fell in love with the room we are having our reception in, and most importantly, they set up a great ceremony indoors, which we needed. I was also not worried, because they have weddings down to a science, and I had been to one that was just amazing!

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

Well, my job sometimes it is wedding related, so I have had the oportunity of been in several facitilies and appreciated their work from inside. When we decided to get married we wanted a wedding in front of the sea ... but for only 50 people party it was impossible to find a small hall. But then I had to go to the Westbury Manor on bussines ... and I just loved it! The funny thing is that I lived during 3 years just in the street behind and never went there. It was nice, classy, but without cheezy details and most important: its 'antique look' looks real, because it is an old mansion and they have been careful of not overdoing many things.

FH is British, and of course most European hate the faked like old style. When I took him there, he was quite happy with it (the only thing he did not like were some flower pots from the chapel, but I did not care ) We booked that same day!

It is true that there are several affairs at the same time, but they manage to give you the space you need ... in my case, I am having the two rooms upstairs, so there is no chance of clashings.

We choose Jericho Terrace because it is very beautiful inside and out and the person we dealt with (Michael Claus) was very good towards us.

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

We chose John Anthonys.
We chose them b/c the price was the same as many other places and they offered us soooo much more and of course b/c of the BEAUTIFUL views!!

Originally we were going to go with Bridgeview b/c it is also beautiful and on the water (and close to home) but JAs was just as beautiful and offered us way too much (for a lesser price).

Thrilled.....I am SOOOOO happy to hear about what JAs did for 9/11. It makes me even happier with my choice

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

We chose Atlantica b/c we are total beach people and had spent a few summers out there. Plus we wanted a location where our OOT guests could feel like they were on vacation. And the place is BEAUTIFUL inside and just our style - classic and not overdone. Granted the price almost gave me a heartattack but once we saw it there was no where else we wanted!

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

We choose the Manor East. It was the first (we saw 3 halls) hall that we saw. From the time we walked in everyone was wonderful. We got to see the halls where we will be having our pre-cocktail hour, cocktail hour and reception.

The price was in our budget and we thought that we were getting so much food for that price. Anthony our BM (and owner) was honest with us and made us feel at home at the ME. I was looking for a place with good service and food and I found it at the ME.

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

I chose the Vanderbilt Mansion becuase it had all of the qualities I was looking for: nice grounds for an outdoor ceremony and pictures, quaint, but elegant atmostphere, and excellent reputation for food and service. It also doesn't have that reception hall feel to it, it feels more intimate.

My second choice was the Fox Hollow. I was actally booked there first, but I realized I wanted a place that had only one wedding at a time, so I cancelled my contract. Otherwise I loved the place.

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

we chose our place b/c there is only one wedding a day, not at a time, a day. therefore we could start whenever we wanted, which was really important to me b/c i wanted plenty of time for pics and especially sunset pics. the other places we looked at didn't start there evening weddings until 7 and by then in sept in would be dark or nearly dark and we'd be having the ceremony during the sunset. did that make sense? i lost my train of thought in the middle, lol. anyway, our second choice was land's end, but we decided against it for the reason above, but also b/c we couldn't make the guarantees except for a sunday (bad day for us) and b/c it's sooo expensive.

anyway, good luck choosing your place!

Melissa: I did not copy it, I just revised it to fit me. I thought that since you and I booked it for the same reasons that you would not mind.

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

I just had a feeling about it, it was also not a common place where people get married all the time and I liked that. Lastly, because my mother is a wacko - the reception needed to be held close to home.

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

I wanted a suburban wedding, a wedding that resembled the kind of life I want to have with my FH. We got the hall halfway between where my family lives and his family lives.... They put on a great wedding, are a little more exclusive and it reminds me of my childhood.... Very me.

Flowerfield, b/c when I walked in my jaw dropped to the floor and it was exactly what I had wanted. The atrium/cocktail hr room is gorgeous and exotic and the main room was all WHITE and bright and classic...I really fell in love with it as soon as I walked in!

Re: WHAT MADE YOU

We chose The Harbor Club because...waterfront property, excellent food and service, there is only one wedding at a time, package included wedding night at The Garden City Hotel, and it was in my price range!
