Hi gals, I just thought we should start a thread about How to make a wedding FUN! I've been to so many weddings where there's not enough dancing, or too many speeches or no booze!!
People sometimes lose sight of what their guests would consider FUN at a wedding.
Those who have been to fun weddings, what made it fun? Or those who are planning a wedding, what are you thinking of incorporating?
Please share your tips!
I'll start, Fiance and I are thinking about doing swing dancing as a first dance...

The people -- it's all about the people. I am a firm believer in seating people that know eachother together and letting them talk amongst themselves...
Also a good DJ and alcohol helps!!!

I think the music makes a fun wedding. You need to have a band/dj that plays the right mix of music and knows how to get things moving.
Also, I feel the crowd makes the wedding. I've been to weddings where I've known a lot of people and I sat the whole time and I've been to ones where I've known very few people and I haven't gotten off the dance floor.
The music and the way the bride and groom are... if they are up and dancing and smiling and laughing, I think it 'sets the mood'.

I think the Bride and Groom set the tone. My cousin and her DH are fun people. Their bridal party had their own dance each and then my cousin and her DH did the same thing.
Alcohol helps too

Thanks for sharing girls! I definitely think having a fun crowd helps and the wedding couple do set the tone.
But what if you don't have a fun crowd? Just alot of relatives who would stay seated all night if they could? How do you entertain them? What can you do to get them up and have fun? Would having an MC help?

I think it's definately up to the Bride and Groom. If they are up having a good time and dancing, everyone will usually join in the fun.
I've been to weddings where if the Bride and Groom weren't on the dance floor, nobody else was.

We're having a casino - I rented texas hold 'em, black jack, roulette & craps tables with professional dealers. I also have a band & DJ.
ETA: When I go to weddings, even huge weddings, only about 30 - 50 people out of 200 may be dancing, sure it looks like the floor's packed but there's always alot of people not dancing, I don't dance & neither does FH so we wanted to have something that other people would enjoy - all my guests are really excited about the casino because it's different and so many have told me 'I don't dance so this will be fun'

we are having ours at the aquarium, which we hope will make for a fun environment!
i think a happy bride and groom, a good DJ, good food, nice atmosphere makes for a good wedding!

Same here. I think it depends on the crowd and vibe of the whole wedding, which usually comes down to the bride and groom, being up there and celebrating. A good dj and good company is all you need!

a good band or DJ....if they get the ppl motivated and up dancing...than the drinks get ppl on the floor all night! Also good food!!!!

i think its definitely mostly about the music.... even with the same crowd of friends, the music can make a difference... DH has a big group of friends from high school that we are close with, and they are all starting to get married now.... at our wedding, everyone was dancing and having a GREAT time. BUT, a few months later at another wedding, the same group of friends were there, but weren't dancing much. this was because the bride had given the DJ a list of songs to play and told him not to play anything that wasn' t on her list. it was ok stuff, but it wan't great dancing music- more like sitting around drinking type music ( dave matthews, etc) so, shows ya- it was the same friends at both weddings, but the music made the difference with people dancing and stuff

I agree, great food and an awesome array of music always sets the tone for a wonderful wedding. FH and I plan on one or two Greek dances to get the crowd involved....I love it!
