Re: What's a Budget

Long ago in a land where there was a word named 'Budget'........
That word disappeared from my FH's and my life long ago.
I think it is a word that a bride to be does not know and forgets about........

Re: What's a Budget

We never came up with a budget. We just decided to do what we wanted and I had a spreadsheet detailing exactly what we were spending when it started getting out of control we cut back a little. For us that was the only way to do it. B/c looking at all of the budgeting calculators they were so far off that you really didnt know weither to laugh or cry about it.

Re: What's a Budget

Yeha, those budgets are So wrong. They never ahve the ratio you need. When ir aised the budget, they had me spending $200 on each bridal party gift, and still not enough on photo! GRRRR I'll have to make a spreadsheet of my own

Re: What's a Budget

I tweaked my budget to still stay within my means. I cut back on flowers and a few other things and that way I spent more money on photography. You have to prioritize, like anything else in life. What do you consider important? Splurge on that and cut back on others? I got my dress from a wholesaler, flowers from Expressions (much cheaper and din't get something extravagant). I'm spending more on my ring and photography because they will last more than one day.

Re: What's a Budget

I think most of those budget planners just aren't equipped for NYC/LI weddings. I'd say we probably spend the most BY FAR (But then again, we also GET the most, by far.)

Re: What's a Budget

It's a word that apparently means nothing.

I think we went over budget with everything (HM included) about $15-20K...I stopped counting.
But it was all worth it and it's all paid for so I guess it's all good in the end.

Re: What's a Budget

I have actually kept to my budget and have pooled a surplus of $5,000 thus far... I overestimated everything- which in the end was good..

Also- the online budgets are crap- they just apply percentages and do not take into account where you live and how much things cost.

Re: What's a Budget

Yeah, what was I thinking? What made me think I could stay within a budget I will never know.
I estimate to have gone or will go over by about $8000.00

I haven't even booked my florist, limos, got the rings, invites, bridal party gifts the list goes on and on!!!

Re: What's a Budget

We were doing good at first....and we had a low budget of $15,000 which is TIGHT on long island..then factor in an expensive DJ and Hall andthings were pushed to the limit. We actually are still close to our budget but the little things add up...craft projects, gifts, veils , tiara, hair and make up trials, Soon to be hoodie's...etc..etc....etc....etc....Those Etc's can add up to Thousands!
