What's your favorite gift you got at your shower??

I am the matron-of-honor for my cousin next year and I'd really like to make her something special for her shower. I was thinking of getting reprints of photos of us through the years and making a scrap book with them, ending of course with her and her fiance and me and my husband. What do you think? Any other ideas for gifts I can make myself that would be more special than something off the registry... Thanks for the help!

For my cousin's shower we made her a bunch of different baskets for each holiday. We did one for Christmas, Halloween/Thanksgiving, Easter/Spring, Fourth of July/Summer. The baskets included a bunch of decorations and oraments, etc. We also did a basket of board games such as monopoly, gestures, yatzee, poker chips. The board games were a big hit and now we use them when we go over to visit lol.

Anything handmade is always very special. You could make them a wedding album and put their invitation on the cover with lace around the book.
You can personalize something or stitch something with their names and date in a heart and put it in a frame.

my cousin had my wedding invitation framed with pressed flowers...I love it!!

something that is really nice and personal is a calandar. I made one for my parents and grandparents. You have to have calandar creator on your computer and you type in all the special occassions/holidays. Then that is the bottom page of the calandar. You then pick pictures(photos) that coincide w/each month and that becomes the top(am I making sense? Top and bottom? Picture a calandar when it's hanging on the wall...) You then bring it to staples and have color copies made of the pics and they colate it for you. It takes a little work, but it is worth it and people LOVE it!! If you have any questtions, just ask...!

Okay, my shower was just this past saturday, so it's still fresh in my head...

I had 3 favorites:
1. My bridal party sent photo album sheets to all my guests. They were asked to make a collage of some sort or write something to me. They brought their pages to the shower, and my friend made me a beautiful photo album and everyone put their pages in it. It's now a scrap book that I will always treasure!

2. One of my bms made me a beautiful shadow box with my invitation. I wanted one sooooooo badly, because I loved our invitations so much, and now I have one!!

3. One of my bms made us our card collector box for the wedding. We are having a winter theme, and she hand painted a wooden sled, with our names and wedding date on it. It's awesome!

I got a few very special gifts. I got a Lane Hope Chest from my dad and stepmother which I have always wanted. I hope to pass it down to a granddaughter someday. My BMs all chipped in an got mini-cakes as favors. I really wanted them for the wedding but they were going to cost us too much $ and the girls knew that. So now I had my mini-cakes
But the one gift that truly pulled at my heart strings was: Growing up my maternal grandmother always gave me beautiful cross stitched framed pieces. I have a birth one, HS grad one, tons of them. Each one is very special to me. She passed away 4 years ago and even then I said that now I will never have a cross stitch for my wedding. I was actually crying the day before my shower since I knew I would be missing a very special gift. But my mother who has not crossed stitch in over 20 years gave me a card that said, 'From my hands and Grandma's heart'. And in the box was a wedding cross stitch.

I agree - anything handmade. Off the top of my head:

*my favorite is the pillow my mom made me out of material from her own wedding gown. I was so touched. (see pic)

*also loved the tshirts my sister had made for us that said 'Teri and James, Married 10/5/02' along with our pictures! very cute

*a door knocker with my new last name

*a honeymoon bag filled with things for Hawaii - and I really did use most of the items! It included a cute beach bag, sunscreen, calling card, underwater camera, chapstick, gum, etc.

*Like Yabbobay I also got a our invite framed with pressed flowers - I love it! (but I got it as a wedding gift)

My mother made me a photo album with all pictures of my grandparents and her growing up. Since all of my grandparents died when I was very young it was the best gift I ever received. I started to cry and I NEVER cry. And of course everyone snapped pictures of me crying, it was a touching moment.

My fave gifts were:

Cross Stitch with a wedding saying from sister in law

My mom sent recipe cards to each guest, and they wrote out a recipe to bring with them and put them all in a recipe box

basket full of decorations for each holiday

picnic basket with snacks, games and goodies
cooler filled with beer and soda and smirnoff ice!


Honeymoon kit- gum, flip flops, sun visors, suntan lotion, first aid kit, crossword puzzles, lip balm, after sun lotion, and a honeymoon picture frame in a cute summery bag.
