Ok so I guarenteed 250 when I signed my contract at westbury manor. We made a mock list and i had a little over 100 on my side including close family and bridal party w/dates. On my FH side he had around 90 of just close family. He used his brothers list (who just got married on sunday) to make his. So to make our gaurentee we need approx 50 more guests. BUT thats really 25 bc they are all friends and would be invited with guest. On our mock list we had WAY over 25 friends...more like I had 60 and that was just me...
So Fh's mom has been bugging us to make the gaurentee lower-to like 200 instead. On his side about 20 people didnt come for whatever reason...it was a sunday night, end of passover so people were on vacations, etc...
Finally, here is my question... in your experiences what should I do? Should I try to get it less with Westbury Manor? OR should I stick to my guns and my gut feeling that 250 will be fine?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Re: What should I do about my 250 gaurentee?
Hmm...I think its kind of hard to make them lower your guarentee after you've already signed. A lot of the times if you can't reach your guarentee they'll throw in some extras, but it's really rare for them to lower the guarentee. By what you've said, I think you should still be fine with the 250, so I wouldn't worry about it too much!
If it was before you signed, I would have said go with 200 since its better to underestimate, I'm just not so sure how willing they'll be to bring it down for you now...

I would think that once you signed they are still going to make you pay the plates for 250 people regardless of how many actually come. But you might get lucky and they may be able to help you---it doesn't hurt to ask your RH.

i agree, i think they will hold you to your minimum, but it doesnt hurt to ask.
250 is a pretty high minimum though
we are inviting 300+ (people kept being added ) but we are a sunday wedding in August and have a bunch of OOTers so we are expecting 235. Our minimum is 160... we should have made it higher, but at the time we didnt think we were inviting as many people. we dont need to worry about coming in under though, and our hall is going to throw in some extras.
make up a guest list... how many people do you think you are going to be inviting? id say you should have at least 300 to be safe w/ a 250 min

Jenn ask now before date gets any closer but not sure they will lower if signed a contract with min.

We have been told that usually about 20% of the people invited don't show for whatever reason. Don't forget even though some reply that they are coming things happen and just don't show.
We are inviting about 225 and guaranteed 200 and we really don't have OOT.

Re: What should I do about my 250 gaurentee?
thats a tough question. I only gaurenteed my place 125, which I know I will have more, and the room can fit a lot more. I didn't want to tell them more beacsue I might not have met it.
It's always better to aim low, then high...

Honestly I would lower the guarantee to 200. Thats a ton of people. If you lower the guarantee and more end up coming then fine, but if your guarantee is 250 and you don't get that many people then you are stuck and still owe for 250 people. JMO!

i WOULD SAY TRY TO GET IT LOWERED. NOT SURE IF ITS POSSIBLE BUT TRY. IF YOU GET THE PEOPLE GREAT & IF NOT YOUR COVERED. DID YOU DEAL WITH LORENA? SHE IS REALLY SWEET & PROBABLY WILL BE HELPFUL WITH THIS. I THINK A GAURANTEE OF 200/225 WOULD BE BETTER FOR YOU. I KNOW IM INVITING 250 BUT I ONLY GAURANTEED 200 JUST TO BE SAFE. GOOD LUCK!

I would lower the gurantee because the room you are getting married in WM they were willing to give me that room for 85 people gaurantee so that means they should be flexible to lower the guarantee.

i would see if they would lower the guarantee - i would rather pay for adding more people that worrying about paying for people that dont show up - you would probably get nice extras but it would be aggrivation

Re: What should I do about my 250 gaurentee?
I guaranteed about 25-30% less than what I am inviting (assuming I do not cut my list more). You will be surprised but the 'nos' come in. Some people come solo, some people have other stuff that comes up. I learned from my sister's wedding that 15-20% is a safe estimate of n'os'.
I would try asap to see if they can work with you.

Re: What should I do about my 250 gaurentee?
That is tough bc honestly alot of RH's wont lower it. Some will do so but not by alot. Is it possible though you can use another room which would have a lower minimum. Each room they expect a certain amount and they don't like to book a room for a much lower minimum when they could've booked it to someone else who would've guaranteed that many ppl.
Its also harder to negotiate once you sign a contract and trust me i learned from experience.
My minimum is 275 and when i started making my list for invitations i freaked out bc all of a sudden fh's family decided not to invite 2nd cousins. The thing is that FH's dad is the youngest of 7 kids and Fh and his brother are the youngest of all the cousins and infact many of his 2nd cousins are closer to his age and who he grew up with and hung out with so thats why they were invited. My minimum had alot to do with the first list we made. Like i said i freaked out but you know what, so many ppl forget some guests they are inviting. For example fh didnt put down alot of his co-workers at first i put down a few that i knew of. Then my dad decides to give me his full list as i was sending invites and in the end it worked out
i would ask first about changing to a smaller room. Good luck

Re: What should I do about my 250 gaurentee?
i would say try and lower the minimum but i doubt they are going to do that since it is a saturday wedding and you already signed the contract.
but just remember that usually 20% of people invited dont show.. so right now youre at 250 without fh's friend if i read your post correctly.. so after fh invites his friends.. and you get the ones who cant make it, you should be at your 250 minimum, or maybe a few under.

Re: What should I do about my 250 gaurentee?
You have a year to go...I would ask them in hopes that they will work w/ you. My experience always shoot low w/ your guarantee b/c its easier to add......(for instance min g 185-200) always keep in mind that usually 10% of your invited guests may rsvp no. Also you have to account for children and vendors.
You don't want to for extra plates.
But hey....worst case scenerio, you can invite all the LI Wedding Brides, we'll go and cover the rest!

Re: What should I do about my 250 gaurentee?
Since you're getting married on my sister's bday and I know May 16 is a Friday this year, next year it will be a Saturday, so I'm sure more people will come than decline from FH's side. I would see if you could get the guarantee to drop a little bit since based on your total 100+90+60 you're right at 250.

they always say its better to guarantee less bcuz once u make a guarantee its easier to make them change it to more as opposed to less. it never hurts to ask! ask and see what they will say.

I think you should try talking to them and see what they can do for you. When I booked the hill rm I guarantee the min for that rm which was 50 even though I know it would be more. But I would def' call them and see what they do for you.... Good Luck

Re: What should I do about my 250 gaurentee?
they can def hold you to your min but like a lot of other people said it really doesn't hurt to ask and sooner is better than later
I would think that once you signed a contract thats it. My guest list for WM is about 280 and I have a guarantee of 200. When booking with Susan I told her that my list was 280 and she told me keeping it at 200 was the way to go. Who did you book with and where did you get that number from if you hadnt finished your guest list????
