me and fh opened 2 joint accounts about 6 months ago...I LOVE IT ...we have a checking to write ne joint bills and wedding stuff from and then we have a savings which is linked to our checking which takes money out every other week ...i also kept a checking and savings thats all mine , not that it matters ne way

Both has really worked out great for us. A majority of the money goes into our joint checking and savings and then we have a smaller percentage in our personal account to do what we want with.
It eliminates arguments because I will never understand FH spanding 300.00 on a printer, scanner thing and he will never understand me spending $300.00 on a bag.

Agreed, you should always have your own savings account. you never know, plus you should have your joint account.

we have our accounts separate and will probably keep it that way after we are married. i think it just avoids any money conflicts. we did open up a joint savings acct for the wedding expenses.

I agree...hey you never know what will happen in the future and I am def. planning on having my own safety net in case things go wrong..

Here's what we do:
Me and my FH each have our own checking and savings accounts AND joint checking and savings as well. All our bill money directly deposits into the joint account, we split the morgage, utilties, car insurance (we on the same plan now), and food bills. We each pay for our own car payments but that money goes into this account as well.
Whats left over in our pay after we have each made our contributions goes into our own accounts so that we can do what we want with it. We also have a wedding account that wedding money goes into.
He does the bills, FH is in finance and works for a bank and is much better managing money than I am. However we talk about everything and make all decisions together.

Thats exactly why we did this as well Ann. WIth his account he can buy all his new electronic stuff that he seems to have to get every month, which I of course dont undertand, and with my account I can go to Bebe spend and crazy amount of money on a shirt, which he doesnt understand, however because we are spending money from our seperate accounts its ok... although I still roll my eyes when I come home and we have ANOTHER TiVo, and he rolls his eyes at me when he sees a large Bebe or Coach shopping bag walking in the house....

We have seperate checking accounts...but a joint savings!!! I pay my bills he pays the rest ( rent/car ins.....ect) We both equally contribute to the savings...It works out so well. We both just buy what we want.![]()

We're doing both.
Right now we have our seperate accounts and a joint account (wedding fund).
After we get married the joint account will be our 'house' account. We'll probably put 75-80% of our paychecks in there to pay for all household related expenses (mortgage, cars, insurance, etc.). We're keeping our seperate accounts so we can buy things we like.

We do not have a joint account just yet- we are planning to open one soon.
But, we plan to have a joint account- one for savings and one for bills. Then our own accounts so that FH doesn't know how much I spend on clothes![]()

i think it's important to keep your own bank accounts as well as having joint accounts. so far it's working for us.

right now we each have our own seperate accounts, but we are opening up a joint accountant as soon as we can find free time!
after we are married, we plan on just having the joint account. i know im in the majority here, but me and fh have discussed it, and when we have kids, i plan on staying home, so i dont see the point in me having an account where i wont be putting any money in to it.
i think its whatever makes you feel comfortable is what you should do
