Re: what should i do w/ my bank account?
We're probably going to have joint and seperate. FH is so bad with money that I'll probably be the one handling all of them.
Search in your own words. Describe what you need or ask a wedding planning question.
im not sure whats better....... i need your opinion!!!!!

We opened a joint together but we are still keeping our separate accounts.
Right now we only have separate accounts (I pay most of the rent, utilities, etc. so he just gives me a check once a month for his smaller share). After we get married we are going to create a joint account for household type expenses, food, things for the apartment, minor purchases, etc. where we (more like me!) both put money in every month and we both have checkbooks and debit cards. That way if one person needs to, for example, stop by the grocery store to pick up like $20 worth of stuff, we can just automatically take care of it. We intend to each make smaller purchases too out of the joint account (like going to a bookstore or picking up a CD). But we will both maintain separate accounts too, because I make a lot (and why should the joint account have to pay for my shoe obsession! haha) and he also has child support payments from his prior marriage that obviously shouldn't come from out joint funds.
I would have both...we opened one up together when we started to contribute to the 'wedding fund' but we are going to keep seperate ones for ourselves (my mother always told me to have a little nest egg on the side for myself...you should see how much she saved up over the years of her and my dad being married...LOL)...but the joint one will be the main one...
We have seperate accounts now. So far, I have covered almost all the wedding deposits. I have a feeling we will make everything joint after the wedding. I make substsntailly more but I trust he will recognize this and not go nuts when I come home with lots of clothes and designer bags. I trust he knows I contribute more than my share and with that comes the freedom to splurge a little! Plus, I have never hid my views from him - nice stuff makes me feel good!
We each have our own checking and savings account and we have one joint checking and savings account. All household expenses get paid through the joint account, all of our own expenses (cars, CC, subscriptions) comes out of the separate accounts.
