Definitely sell the damn thing and then spend the money on pampering yourself. You deserve a nice long vacation.

My first engagement I gave it back by throwing it at his evil head.

Now that I think about it I should have kept it and then sold it for something I could really use or just about anything I wanted. If you keep it you could make a nice necklace out of it.

If it feels right to give it back do it otherwise go on a nice vacation on him....

It might be safe to get him to put something in writing that he doesn't expect it back, that way he can't come back later asking for it.

I also second getting it appraised before trying to sell it. You need to know what its worth before you can accept a selling price
