I am banning all line dances except the electric slide- I had to concede that one to my FIs family (even though I don't like it)
And my FI doesn't want anything by Gloria Estefan.

I agree with all of you. But my mother has REQUESTED the electric slide.

My Grandmother LOVES the electric slide. Would think there was something wrong with the DJ if he didn't play the electric slide. Is the first Electric Slider out there on the floor! So yes, we will have the Electric Slide.

But no Macarena, no Chicken Dance (What's that? - don't want it), No YMCA - maybe I'll create a line dance with Hey Ya! Like a 50's style 'Grease' handjive thing.

But probably 'Hot, Hot, Hot' with no conga line - Jamaicans don't do conga lines.

My DJ (Spin Around Sound) doesn't play any of the typical cheese unless you ask. I also don't want anything by the Beatles, no Motown, and nothing by Pink!

My DJ will not play any of the cheese (will not, even if we wanted it - hence they are not for everyone).

My no-no's:

Anything JLo, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Donna Summer, boy bands ...

Hmm - there's probably more, I was just adding to my list last night.

My parents are Billy Idol fans but I hate Mony, Mony (when the crowd sings, 'Get laid, Get F*d) so I may ban that.

The electric slide is Jamaican? I think you might be a tad off base with that one. heh. But it's nice that you'll play it for your granny.

Line Dancer - At first line dancing was danced to pop music. The ones we remember were the 'Stroll' and much later 'Cruising' and the 'Electric Slide'. A few years ago the line dancing moved into C/W music and then added pop and everything else with a beat. Although this form of dancing is usually attributed to ladies without dance partners there are many men and couples who line dance.

Strangely, I've never heard the group participation to the Mony Mony - One of these days I'd like to, just so I know.

However - my banned list is:
Celine Dion
Who Let the Dogs Out
Sweet Caroline (this doesn't bother me as much as it does FH)
PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT
AMERICAN PIE (any version)

This is why I can't have a dj. With the exception Beatles & 1 old Shania Twain song ( Any Man of My Mine'- nostalgia for the college friends)
I would ban ALL of what you have suggested.
there'd be nothing left to play.

I am very happy to hear the Anti- Meatloaf stance.
I HATE Meatloaf.
I turn off the radio till its over, if they play one of his songs.
And they are LONG, so that's quite a while of silence at work!

I agree with 99.9% of what was written here.. If it were up to me and FH, we'd be playing lots of current and classic rock. But, since you simply cannot dance to any of that stuff, I know I'll have to incorporate some things in there that we just do NOT like, unfortunately.

I know its OUR wedding and that we should make ourselves happy .. but we want everyone to have a good time. I want a real party-like atmosphere and its important to me that I have a little bit of everything at the wedding, for all ages. This includes the traditional Italian (me) and Greek (FH) dances! (which I'd rather do without.. but its do honor our grandparents!)

That said .. I will include the Electric Slide, mostly because BOTH MOM's have asked for it .. And some other 'danceable' tunes that are sure to get the party going. My only absolute 'NOs' are the Macarena, Chicken Dance, HOT HOT HOT, Who Let the Dogs out, and ANY CELINE or BARBARA STREISAND!

I actually don't mind YMCA ... it reminds me of Yankee games And it'll bug FH, who is a Met fan !!

well i agree with most of you..definitely not any line dancing songs or hokey pokey..definitely not mony mony..but the old disco is a plus at my wedding..i also don't want any country..we do have to remember that there are other people there though and the older people do like the cheese don't they..

I banned them from doing all things like the limbo, the conga line, chicken dance, etc.. but I guess they didnt listen to me because they did it anyway!!!!!!!!!! I was sooo angry!

Edited to say: OMG deedee the same stuff happened to me at my wedding.. I gave them the CD to play for my entrance song AND THEY DIDNT.. nor did they do any of my requests!!!!!!!!!

I have about 36 songs/singers that I will literally pull the plug on the DJ if I hear them. I am really picky about my music - I will FM it to anyone who needs it because its just too long.

Can you imagine the look at the face of a 73 year old Chinese granny to THAT song??

Besides for the most part I don't like rap at all. I hate that they call women ''Hos' and talk crap all the time.. 'Ghetto life' gimme a break. Some rap I do like but it's rare.

Its nasty and rude and not what I want my wedding to have.
