slipper basket and why is it necessary?

I think it's a basket in the bathroom of the hall that has those chinese slippers in it (for those ladies that want to take their shoes off?) I'm not quiet sure myself

In my opinion, it isn't necessary! I had never heard of the idea until I started reading LIW.

It sounded like what we did for Sweet 16's..when the DJ would give out socks haha

Speaking as a person who use to frequent the Bat Mitzvah circuit about 22 years ago with one party every week, I remember how they used to give out socks to all the kids who couldn't handle wearing their party shoes all night. I, for one, think this is a great idea though I have never seen one in person. I have MAJOR foot issues. I can't wear heels or hard bottomed shoes or the balls of my feet are in excruciating unbearable pain. I wear orthodics as it is. Unfortunately, a lady cannot go out for the evening in slippers but by the end of the night, I know I would appreciate any form of comfort someone could give me. JMO.

Never heard of that. hmmmm. Nice to know what it is.

It isn't necessary - it's just another added touch if you want it. It's a basket filled with slippers or flip flops so guests can take their shoes off and dance the night away. I saw someone on here make it, let me see if I can bump it....

I've never seen it done in person, but I think it's a GREAT idea. With my back problems I can't tell you how miserable I am by the end of the night, and I usually wind up barefoot out of sheer necessity. The sslipper basket it great. I am totally going to do it, but I'm going to have them put it out toward the end of the reception, so people aren't just walking around in slippers all day. Plus, they can always wear them on the way home. I know the first thing I do in the car is take off my shoes! (if I made it to the end with my shoes on, which is rare)

It's a basket with Chinese slippers in it so the women don't have to walk around barefoot at the reception (if they wanted to take off their heels)

I had never heard of it until LIW either and had no idea what it was. I didn't think I was gonna do it but honestly, it's a good idea. It certainly isn't necessary but I think it's a nice gesture to do for your poor dancing guest's feet. They'll appreciate it, and it's nice to have something different. It's one of the DIY projects I'm working on now!

Instead of the bathroom tho, I'm going to put the basket on the floor by the dj. I find that sometimes you're so busy dancing you don't find the time to escape into the bathroom and then you'll never see the slippers!

We're getting a variety of common sizes. Mainly 7-9 and a few 6 in 4 different colors; black, white, silver, and gold.

I think its a nice idea but doesn't seem like it would work logistically. Also, it would only be good for halls that only have one affair. Otherwise people from other parties would be taking the slippers meant for your guests!

Well some halls ahve separate floors and have separate bathrooms for the other parties so the bathrooms wouldn't be so crowded for the guest I think its a great idea I am thinking of making one if I have a chance to

It's a nice touch, if you have the time, and the extra dough...I hate when people dance completely barefoot at weddings, I'm always afraid they are going to step on something....

I'm in the minority - I think it's really silly. There are so many other important things that need to be done for that day; seems like it would take a lot of prep time.

Once I had the slippers it took all of maybe 30 minutes to put them inside the organza bags and attach the tags. Someone, (DOC in my case) just needs to place them in the ladies room on the day of.

Not a lot of prep time at all. It's not really silly at all, just a matter of personal preference.
