What to do inbetween

Hump Day! Yay!...

FH and I have been discussing between getting married in a church or getting married at our venue. I am all for a church but cant get over the fact what to do with the people inbetween the ceremony and cocktail hour.
The latest our chuch will do is 1:30, we are only having a ceremony so the most will be 40 minutes. Thats 2pm, then cocktail hour at 7pm??.. Its way too long for a hospitality hour, ugh, so fustrating, does this bother anyone else?

I've never been to a wedding where there bride and groom had a suggestion as to what to do in between. I've always figured it out on my own. That being said my mom us going to have people back to my house since my church is by my house and my rh is in Staten island and I have some family from long island and friends coming from jersey.

I'm in the same boat as you. Our church ceremony starts at 1:30 and cocktail hour starts at 7 as well. The church and venue are 5 minutes apart and a majority of our guests live in the neighborhood so they'll probably just go home. But I do have some out of town guests. We might have them go to my in laws house since they live close to the church.

People will figure out what to do on their own. A lot of people that are staying at the hotels can go back there to freshen up. If you're really concerned you can leave some kind of map of the area for guests to use in their welcome bags of things to do in the area.

my ceremony is at 3. Its a full mass. Cocktail hour is at 7. My home is near church and FH home is near venue so My mom will have our family and fh will host his family in between. I always figure out for myself what to do in between. I wouldnt worry about it.

You can always have somebody pass out a list of places in the area for people to go to kill time. I've never been to a wedding where this was done, but it's a nice idea. We went to a wedding upstate last year and found a pizza place to go to for a little while. You figure out someplace to go.

My church ceremony is at 2:30PM and my cocktail hour begins at 6:30PM (45 minute drive). We figure that the ceremony will be around 45 minutes and then the receiving line and pictures will take another 30-45 minutes. My parents may host something at our house but people will likely just head to the reception. Our venue is allowing people to arrive as early as 6 which is nice. they will have small bites and champagne waiting.

I have the same issue...my ceremony is at 1pm and my cocktail hour starts at 6:30pm. I'm sure people will get to the hall early, there's a bar, and they can hang out there.

I figure I live in the middle of literally everything you can do. I'm 5 minutes from Roosevelt Field mall, there's 300 restaurants surrounding my town - my parents and FH's parents will open their homes to people in between for drinks and light food. I assume most people will either A) not come to the church if they live far away, or B) come to the church and stop home and change for the wedding if they live close. At the end of the day, it's your wedding. Do what's best for you.

I think a large part depends on how important it is to you that everyone attend your ceremony and be dressed up. I went to a wedding this weekend with the church at 2:30 and the cocktail hour starting at 7:30. Most of the people at the church were dressed more casually because they would go home to change in between. It also looked like many guests did not attend the ceremony. So I would weigh out how important that is to you. But, I'm sure anyone important to you will make sure they are there.

If there are a lot of out of towners, I would leave suggestions of what to do in the OOT bags at the hotel.

FH and I are not super religious, we would be getting married in a church to make our families happy which is fine. I just have such a hard time feeling that getting all dressed up to come to church at 1:30 and wait around dressed till 7pm is ok. FH's family is from queens and there are alot of them! And we dont want them sitting in traffic on the belt. Of course we could find something for them to do but hanging out at a cafe or shopping center all dressed up bothers me.. I feel bad for them. Ugh, so fustrating!
