I interviewed at a place yesterday and I think it went really well. They kept me there for a second interview on the spot. I am looking for a place that’s closer to my house (I travel an hour each way now) this place is about 10 minutes closer, if that… so – no big difference there. BUT – the pay will be much higher. I just don’t know what to do. I do not like my job I currently have. The new job would actually have me supervising people which I have never done before (to that extent), BUT – right now everyone has their own office, but they are moving downstairs (or upstairs) and they will have workstations (which I take to mean cubicles) Not saying I am against cubicles, but I have been there done that and you know everyone’s business. I don’t like the idea of everyone being able to hear me on the phone and stuff. I share an office now with 2 other people I would rather that than 15 people in the same room!
Anyway… I have been looking for a new job for quite some time now, and this is the best thing that has come along so far. I just have my reservations about it. I have a vacation in July that I will have to take unpaid (I don’t get vaca there for 3 months), and I am in my comfort zone in my current job, even though I hate it.
There is a good chance they will be caling me next week to meet with the CFO (she was on vacation this week) and then, from the sounds of it, as long as she likes me, they will b offering me the job. I just don’t want to take it thinking it will be better than it is here (morale here is VERY low) and end up hating it more than this job, or having more work than this job (I am so totally overloaded and want something less stressful)
I don’t know what to do though! (they need a “pulling my hair out” icon!)
Vent over… sorry so long!

Re: what to do what to do...
I so get you about the cubicles.
I have my own office now and love it. My best friend makes TONS more $ than me and has a cube. Its just how some cos work.
I'd ask the new co if they offer the job, how the workstations will be set up.
I think the idea of leaving a co you're at now and starting something new is always scary bc you don't know how it will be. Its the fear of the unknown that makes the decision hard.
Id leave if its an upward move and there's more $.

Re: what to do what to do...
I hear ya and i know its a tough decision b/c one option is somewhat unknown.
You kinda have to weigh out what is most important to you and what does FH think?
I understand how nicer that commute will be - but i dont think you can use that as a serious decision maker. The cubicle thing - i totally get that since in my line of work its all on the phone but not sure if you can you that as a deciding factor either b/c well you dont have much control over that anyway.
If you are really unhappy where you are now and dont see it getting any better you should make a move. Are you confident the postion at the new place will be long lasting? is the company stable enough to support your salary??
Coming from a broad who is unemployed i know how you feel b/c its hard to make decisions, like i said, when something is so unknown.

i would take the job and test it out. if you are truly as unhappy as you are with your current job as you say you are, then what do you have to lose? the risk of losing an office really isn't that bad... maybe it'll be tall cubicles, which provide more privacy.
i actually work for a co that has short cubicles and honestly, it's not that bad...
extra $$ never hurts... esp with a wedding on the way!

Re: what to do what to do...
it is for a managerial position, adn it is more $$ definitely. about $10K worth from the sounds of it, depending on the offer obviously... I jstu don't want to be overloaded there like I am here. i think thats the problem I am having with it.

Re: what to do what to do...
the pay raise would be very enticing for me....
BUT if i was in my comfort zone and looking for a new job....I wouldn't leave unless I found something MUCH better
I want to leave my job also...but I dont want to leave just to leave...I want to leave and find something I will be happier with
If I were you, I would definitely go to the next interview...and ask alllll your questions...ask about your workspace and workload...if they really want you they will be willing to work with you!
on the other hand...if you end up hating it, you can always leave! nothing is permanent or set in stone!
sorry if i wasnt much help

thats my other dilemma - will I take the job and get laid off in 6 months... i dotn want that to happen either. I have had places tell me they are soo stable and then find out that they put the interview process on hold b/c they are doing lay-offs! what the hack is that?! lol but I know exactly what you mean.. I dotn want to take it and then get laid off!

yeah - getting laid off is not a nice thing to think about when you are saving for a wedding..

LOL yea tell me about it!!!! womp womp
seriously though - you have to make a move you feel comfortable with. the pay raise is nice, the managerial experience is def a plus so if you feel its a move up and they offer you the position - i would totally go for it.
