We have the entire top of our cake just chilling in the fridge...I know most couples save it in the freezer, and take a bite on their anniversary...do people still do that??

Yes, I think on your one-year wedding anniversary, you're supposed to take it out of the freezer and have a bite of it each, with champaigne!

Wrap it in 2 layers of saran wrap and then one layer of aluminum foil and freeze. I don't know what it will taste like a year later, but it seems like a nice thing to do.

Re: What to do with your cake top after the wedding??
we had a thread about this before. (not sure if it was on BHB, though)
A lot of people thought the cake was fine after 1 year. My cake top was GREAT at the 1 year mark. In fact, we had people over and a bunch of them wanted to try a bite, and then a piece, and then the whole thing was gone
I wrapped it in like 10 layers of the heavy duty saran wrap and then another 5 or so layers of heavy duty aluminum foil.
Also, every 4 months, I took the 'package' out of the freezer for approx 1 hour and then put it back in there to prevent freezer burn.

Well Anthony was hungry one night and left it out on the counter and went to bed... The next morning it was covered in ants I could have killed him.. Oh well, now I have more room in my freezer

I would sooner put my cake in a piece of freezer- safe Tupperware than foil. Aluminum foil is linked to Alzheimer's disease. My father had Alzheimer's Disease and if I could prevent it, I would. Mom used to wrap EVERYTHING in foil. Not saying he wouldnt have gotten it anyway, but I thought people might want to know.
(P.S. - I used to sell Tupperware and learned that tidbit in training)

It's not too late! Take that sucker out and wrap it in Saran Wrap...you have a little while to go.

Re: What to do with your cake top after the wedding??
If you don't want to eat that specific cake top for your 1 yr anniversary, a lot of couples have found an alternate, by re-creating the exact cake top, and having a fresh one.
However, you can get that one wrapped a million times with saran wrap/aluminium, etc...and have it defrost a day before your 1 yr.

My BF and her husband did that but within that year that was the blackout so the cake went bad but they did have a bite of bad cake to celebrate I know FH and I are saving it and going to eat it on our 1 year anniversary...or take a nibble anyway.
