what were/are you looking for in a hall?

Original post by AdriandSteve

What types of things were you girls looking for in a hall?

i def had to have high ceilings, the dance floor in the middle of the room, a evenly shaped room, the sweet heart table right across from the dj, IF the place had rugs they couldn't look old, if there were two events they had to have separate bathrooms, the room couldn't have any partitioned walls, cocktail hour had to be in a separate room, umm.. yeah.

I really want something near or on the water. I want to have high ceilings and chandeliers. The carpet thing is huge! So many places have nasty carpeting. I want things clean and new looking.

Still looking...

I needed to have that WOW feeling from the moment I walked in the front doors and in every room that I was going to be using. And I definitely found that.

And having two bars in the reception room is a definite plus

We ended up booking at the Inn at New Hyde Park - we looked at close to 20 RHs and were most impressed with the Inn. It's gorgeous. We have our tasing coming up - so hopefully the food will be equally as impressive!! It was not even on our radar to see, since we live right around the block, but it was by far our favorite venue.

We did have to compromise the scenic/waterview we were hoping for - but the places we saw on the water were lacking other things we thought were important. We are really happy with our decision!!

a WOW or a potential for WOW as u enter the room. .

Views of NYC or some kind of amazing views.

Windows lots of windows == preferring floor to ceiling.

I want an open feeling - I wanna feel the sun on my skin but it doesn't have to be a garden or completely outdoors.

Great sound system. Great lighting.

No carpets, no tacky wall paper -- no ornate gilded gold 1970's decor. No conference room. No rooms without windows.

Just nothing typical as we aren't exactly typical LOL. It wouldn't fit us at all.

To be honest, since I have a small wedding, I needed a place that guarantees a small minimum. That was first. After that, it needed to be in a good price range and offer a lot of the price. I am narrowing it down to two places so far.

I had been to a wedding at one of the places and the other is a place I never heard of until I became a LIW board fanatic.

Each is different, so it makes it hard to decide. I am hoping that FH and I make our final choice within the net couple of weeks.

i wanted it to be on the water, one wedding at a time, awesome food, and something not too over the top. just charming in its own way. and we found exactly that!

- 1 wedding at a time
- No marble or gold everywhere or anything gaudy
- Fit 200+ people
- Circular tables (not oval)
- Nice bathrooms

One wedding at a time, modern clean decor (surprisingly hard to find) good food, and a someplace that would let me have a night wedding with less than 150 people.

A beach, a huge dance floor and it had to remind me of Italy. My hall has all of that. I was sold the minute I walked in there.

I see that you are getting married at carlyle on the green. I was wondering what they priced you.

high ceilings, one wedding at a time, friendly staff, large cocktail room with seating for every guest. Nice grounds, and a nice size bridal suite. Since I have 9 bms and myself its gotta be spacious

High ceilings
Place that will do a small-ish wedding
I needed it to be accessible.
Nice bathrooms (I'm a fanatic, I even went into the Men's Rooms)
Something not modern, that's just not me
Something FH loved as well.

Re: what were/are you looking for in a hall?

I think for us it was less about specific things and more about a feeling. We looked at things in our price range (although we ended up spending a little more than we'd originally intended). We wanted something with a great menu that we wouldn't have to add a ton of stuff to. One wedding at a time was also really important to us.

It was more about a feeling, though. We looked at three places in Staten Island (where my family lives), and only two places in LI. We really didn't like the second place (which I won't talk about, because lots of people love it and I believe to each his or her own), but both FH and I walked out of the Sandcastle and said well, that is it. I think it was just a gut reaction for us.

We looked for something central for all our guests, reasonably priced, good food

I am still looking (actually only looked at one so far), but I want something on the water, lots of windows, has to be able to have the ceremony on-site, excellent food, top shelf bar, and a clean, elegant feeling.
