One of my best friends is leaving for Barcelona, Spain on Sunday she's studying abroad there for 5 months. I wanted to make her a little going away package but I don't know what kind of stuff to put into it. Does anyone have any creative (yet inexpensive) ideas? I can't put anything huge into it because if she's going to take any of it with her she has to have room for it in her suitcase (she's only allowed 2 and 1 carryone ) Thanks guys!

put things that are from 'NY' Like bagles...lol FH had made a package for his friend tha tmoved to Fl. He put bagles and some pics of NY things. and I think he even filled a bottle of NY water. His friend really loved it!!!

do you know what kind of phone plan she will have....cause you could always do like a Keep In Touch packet....do calling cards...stationary to write....an address book where you fill in some of the people you know with phone numbers addresses and email addresses....if you wanted to do cute and corny you could print up a t-shirt with something dorky that would always make her laugh.....you could build a bear for her....photo albums and picture frames are always a great idea!!!!!

I think that's a pretty cool idea but I dont' think know if they'll give her a problem for bringing food and a liquid substance on the plane.

I think I like the stationary idea (and maybe stamps also) and a calling card possibly. That stuff should be small enough to fit into some crevice in her luggage!!!! Thanks Chrissy!

you're welcome. I have two friends that just traveled abroad...i could send one an email and ask what her best going away gift was???
OOOOOO that reminds me.....if you can get to some place to exchange money....go get her euros....(i think spain uses the euro or get their money) this way when she gets off the plane...if she wants to grab something quick she already has that currency and doesn't have to go convert her dollars first!!!! After those long plane rides sometimes she may just want a drink or a snack!!!

This is a really good idea, but about the stamps, I think she needs the stamps from Spain. US stamps won't work over there.

I know when I studied abroad I really could have used calling cards!!
This is going to sound ridiculous.... but TAMPONS. They have different kinds of tampons and feminine stuff over there. I know that I, personally, am very particular about a certain brand, and it was terrible using the ones I found abroad!
Maybe that shouldnt go in the care package....but I'd definitely let her know that one! Same goes for soap, hair stuff, etc. If she's particlar about any of that stuff, make sure she brings it!!
