What would you do?
There is a guy in 1 of my classes who was too cheap to buy the book & always asks me to email him my assignment or brief him on the readingso he can be prepared. Well tonight we have to email the professor our takehome midterm & the guy called me last night to tell me that he hasnt made any copies og the case study and he feels that its too late to read it & complete the exam y this evening, so he said that hes going to call me at work today so I can 'help' him with the answers. I feel like I'm being taken advantage of! I don't want to give him the answers to the questions, especially since I put close to 8 hours of work into the research thats required, but I also don't want him to get annoyed with me, because he's on my team for our final presentation. Whats should I say to him when he calls later today??TIA!

Re: What would you do?
Knowing him, he'll call over & over until I pick up, his number on my caller id comes up as unavailable, so I can't not pick up my phone the whole day.

Re: What would you do?
OMG!!!
I would definitely TAKE the call and tell him what I think of his mooching!!!
That is so wrong - this guy is just coasting through this course based on your work!!! Essentially, he's cheating. That's just wrong!

Re: What would you do?
I would tell him I don't have another 8 hours to go over the answers with him and that he should perhaps buy the book so he can do his school work himself.

Re: What would you do?
He's definitely taking advantage of you.You need to tell him in no uncertain terms that you will no longer be able to 'help' him with his assignments. You are not his teacher or tutor, plus you have your own work to do.
I'd even say to him that you worked on your assignment for 8 hours, and ask him if he really expects you to share all your hard work to him so that he can pass the test.
It is not your fault he's a cheapskate!
Be strong and don't back down! Good luck.

Re: What would you do?
He just left me a voicemail saying he's goingto try me back in alittle while & the phone # he was calling from showed up on my caller id, so I know when not to pick up the phone, maybe I should just take the cowards way out and change my voicemail to say I'll be in meetings all day today!

Re: What would you do?
i would take the call and let him know that you can't give him the answers because he needs to do the work.there's no way you should have to put up with this behaviour and ther's no way he should be getting away with it!
stand up for yourself and tell him to bug off!

I agree that the right thing to do would be to take the call and just tell him, but at this point, we have a midterm that has to be emailed to the professor by 8:00 tonight and he's going to beg me to help him and put my through a guilt trip. He sounded really desperate in he voicemail, I almost felt bad for him, but again, he's been mooching off me the whole semester and I'm sick of it!

Take the call and give him the wrong answers. Or wrong info this way he will learn he should have done it himslef. You could say you confused the info with something else.

Too Bad!! He is an adult and responsible for his choices, let him live with them. Why bother taking a class if you are not going to read the book or do the work???
And please don't feel guilty!!

I like that idea!
But the thing is, all the questions are analytical that also required you do some research to come to your conclusion, so in order to give him a wrong or different answer, I would have to put alot of thought into it. That's also part of what's annoying me aboutthis, it's not a multiple choice exam, everything is analysis, so he wants my views to pass them as his own, just because he's too lazy to do the work himself!

Re: What would you do?
Oh - and I forgot to add, I saw him in school on Monday night and he told me that he was unable to make copies of the case and he didn't know what to do. Well, I told him to call me at work on Tuesday morning & I would make copies of the case and fax it to him & he never called!! He called me last night in a panic!! I thought that I was being more than nice by offering to fax him the pages, but this just proves that he wants the answers handed to him, instead of actually doing the work himself!

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm just going to avoid his calls till I get home & at that point I'll say that I didn't have a chance to type it up and I'll be working on that till the email deadline - and hang up quickly by telling him I have to rush to finish my own work on time!

Re: What would you do?
You CANNOT give him the answers... when I was in college, I was on the disciplinary board, and I can't tell you how many times we got cases like this, and we were required to find BOTH parties culpable... the cheater and the person helping. If the answers are analytical, and you help him, I guarantee your professor is familiar enough with cheating that he will recognize that both your answers are way too similar. Even if you had every good intention, you could really get yourself in deep trouble by helping him. If nothing else, I would tell him that you are just too busy yourself to help him out.Welcome New Vendors
