what would you do...

what would you do...

FSIL is wearing 5 inch stilettos to our wedding. She is already 5'7'. The dress looks a bit short and she is now towering over me. She is VERY sensitive to criticism. Do i say something??

Is she in the wedding party?
Those shoes don't sound comfortable and I doubt they will last all night long.

I hear there won't be too many pics with the bridal party.... maybe you can ask the photog to situate her more in the background so she looks shorter... kinda like what they do with Ryan Seacrest... they always have him standing in front of people so he looks taller.

Your other option is to either speak to her yourself of have FH speak to her about it... if it really bothers you.

Otherwise... just think of some crafty ideas so you guys don't end up right next to eachother.

You will still be the one who stands out.

she is a bridesmaid...she is towering over everyone. My cousin tried to break the news to her but she said the dress looks fine. Am I out of line by asking her to just wear a shorter heel?

There is no need for anyone, ever, to wear a 5' heel. Especially not someone who is 5'7'. What size shoe are your other girls wearing? Maybe you can ask FMIL to talk to her or FH?

My FSIL is about that tall and I actually did ask her if she could wear shorter shoes. When she's in town for my bparty, (along with my MOH) we're going to all talk about what shoes they're wearing. My MOH is 5'1' and I'm 5'4' and FSIL is 5'7' so we'll see if we just keep it as a progression or if they'll both wear heels.

Make her sit in all the pictures!

Seriously, why would you wear 5 inch heels when you are in a BP?? She is going to be on her feet all day!!! What about the GM she is paired up with? Will she tower over him?? If so, I would use that as leverage to get her to change her shoe choice.

i dont know what you should do...im not a heel girl, so i cant imagine even wanting to wear such a high heel to a wedding (they would be off in a second)

i dont think you should say anything to her, buy her a pair of flip flops for the pics, bc the lord knows her feet will hurt and have the photog not take pics of her feet.

oooooor buy the whole BP flip flops for the pics, make it a cutsie thing and youre set

Re: what would you do...

what about asking her mom to talk to her about it? i ask my moms opinion on pretty much everything and always consider her advice... but then again, this is brad's mom... she's prob the one wearing 5 inch heels herself

I have a friend who is 5'11 and in the bridal party. She's matched up with fh's best friend who's 5'5 on a good day Will it look funny? Sure! Do I care? Not really.

If your FSIL wants to tower above everyone and look silly, she will achieve just that look. I think mentioning it would be unnecessary and may lead to drama.

i already tlaked to her...made a joke and said i didnt want to look like a munchkin from the wizard of oz at our wedding..she totally understood, laughed and said she will happily wear different heels...crisis averted lol

My entire BP was towering over me except for my sis. I am 5' and even with heels I was still short. It doesn't look bad in pics cause most will not be with everyone and those with everyone just put her on t he end.

pick and choose what u want to stress over. honestly... think about all the wedding pix u have seen on this site. do u REALLLY remember the bms?? i dont. and chances are, no1 in your wedding will pay attention to the bridesmaids.

let her wear the 5 inch stilletos and look like a giant. shes going to be uncomfy. dont stress it.

Absolutely not...I'd tell it just doesn't work and she needs new heels.

Hmmm... honestly I would say something or have a BM say something to her.

Re: what would you do...

I think 5' heels are ridiculously high, and just would be uncomfortable, so I would say something based on that alone.

However, to play tall girl devil's advocate for a moment...she's 5'7' and will be wearing 5' heels, which will bring her to 6' tall. Would you tell a girl who is 5'10' that she can't wear 2' heels? Or a girl that is 5'9' not to wear 3' heels? The heel height is more 'reasonable', but the net effect is still the same....a girl who will be 6' tall.

Of course, I'm in the opposite situation, and I'm telling my shorter BMs they can't wear heels because I don't want anyone articifically being as tall as I am, but also to make FH more comfortable.

point taken. My response is this, if she was planning on being over 6 feet tall she should have ordered extra length on her dress so that it didnt look toos hort. but i do get your point

Of course...I have some dresses that are borderline hoey short when I wear my ballet flats Sometimes it's SO obnoxious to be tall, it really makes for difficult situations sometimes. But 5' really is extreme, even for someone of average height like 5'7'.

Re: what would you do...

a nice way to say this is to ask her if she could please get lower heels because you are thinking of putting her with a guy that is her height ( do you have any short guys in your wedding or around her height?)
