Topic: Alchohol issues.. Is this tacky? From: heathershay01 Date: 1/24/2003 at 2:53 pm
I am a hardcore budget bride and I just don't think I can afford alchohol for my 200+ guests. So I'm thinking of only letting my family and closest friends have access to the champagne when the best man makes his toast. I guess I will just have to tell the waiters who gets a glass and who doesn't. Any suggestions on how to do this? Maybe show him pictures of the people I want to drink? What do you think? Heather

Why bother having that many people if your gonna look for ways to make money off of them, I think it's completely ridiculous. I would be offended if I were a guest at that wedding.

Sounds to me like a joke and that it was written by one of those 'fantasy brides' that were frequenting this board

I mentioned this once before, but thought it would be a 'fun' (??) one to repeat. Was a BM in a wedding in Alabama last summer. Had to buy a $200-plus baby blue satin dress that was heavy as all get-out (perfect for June in Bama! Not) and about 3 sizes too big for me (despite my calling in measurements). Spent another $100-plus on alterations. Flew from DC to Bama, connecting in Pittsburgh. Only we didn't connect, the one of the only two flights a day to Bama got cancelled so we sat in the airport for 8 hrs. Finally got there just in time for the end of the rehearsal which was followed by dinner in the church basement. Wedding itself the next day lasted all of 2 1/2 hours from the time the bride walked down the aisle (1 pm) to when she and her groom changed their clothes, tossed the bouquet, and rode off into the sunset for their honeymoon (roughly 3:30). The reception was in a beautiful old house on the U of A campus...with not a drink in sight, save for some lemonade punch (non-alcoholic). There was no food other than a single table with some crudite veggies and finger sandwiches (there were 150-plus guests). However, there were TWO cakes...a beautiful huge coconut cake for the bride and an enormous chocolate groom's cake. We must have had two slices of each because we were starving!! The bride actually told me her reception cost $10 a head (she was very proud). The entire wedding probably cost her about $2000 (oh, except for what she spent on her dress, which was roughly the same as what the entire wedding cost). We spend more than that on airfare, dress, alterations, and hotel...not to mention 8 hrs of hell in the Pittsburgh airport. Ah well. What you do for your friends, huh? And it goes to show how not everyone is used to what we are used to in NY I guess.

If you have a cash bar only wedding, do you warn your guests ahead of time?? I don't usually go to a wedding with alot of $$ expecting to pay for drinks, except for a gift for the Bride and Groom.
