That is horrible, she can afford 200 guests but not to treat them equally, then she should cut her list!

Just have a cash bar. That would be so tacky...though a cash bar is a bit tacky too.

Has anyone been to an alcohol free wedding???
I have and it was the most boring wedding I've ever been too. No one danced and everyone left an hour early, including the brides family.
In fact several guests brought flasks (inlcuding the brides grandmother)...
I would at the very least put bottles of wine on each table during dinner...

Maybe she should have included a little note with her invite that said BYOB (bring your own booze)
I can't imagine with a 200 person guest list that she is now not sure if she can afford acohol!!! OMG!!!!

I hope that was a joke! I think it should be open bar or nothing! My God.
I felt bad, SOME of the older folks in my family are just plain cheap!!!! Think I'm kidding.... my cousin was getting married but lived in Alabama. To get married in Maine, she put her mother in charge of everything (she really didn't care). Her mother = the cheapest one! So, we're at the wedding, and they were only serving beer and wine, amoung non-alcoholic beverages. My grandmother gets up to get a coke, and they were charging $1 - she came up to me and asked if I had a dollar on me? That was just one issue with that fiacso! (I love my cousin dearly, and she's in my BP, but my Lord, her mother kills me)

Ive been to a beer, wine and soda wedding. No way for me. Open bar please with all the top shelf liqure you can get your hands on.
If people dont get drunk enough at my wedding we are renting a limo bus (and not charging our guests) and going out for more!!! My party will NOT end!
I cant believe some people. I hope this is someones joke!

I agree with the other brides who said how tacky it was to charge guests for drinks. I mean the guests are going to be putting money in an envelope for you and on top of that you are charging them a 20 Dollar cover charge? are you serious about doing that? please tell me you're joking.
If heather is such a hardcore budget bride she shouldnt be having 200 + guests at her wedding. I mean i'm on a budget too and have 200 + guests but I still cant play it cheap by charging guest a covercharge for alcohol and Heather's idea of only letting certain people drink champaigne...hello is she looking to start a war with people. Because believe me they will get mad when they see certain tables getting champaigne and others not. Everyone should get the champaigne because all the guests should toast the bride and groom. I hope you re-think this heather and think about it well. You should have gone with a hall that has an open bar. My reception hall has full open bar including an expresso stand....All included in the price.

I'm only gonna charge the people I don't like...
Don't I wish!!! I'm on a very tight budget - you keep the guest list to a minimum so you can still have a classy affair!!!
No home training...

Speechless . . .
Some people just do not have any class. . . between the ebay post (did anyone ever find out if that was a joke?) and cover charges, and limiting alcohol . . .
Good thing LIWs is a place to come for normalcy!

Re: what would you do if posed with this problem?
My FH and I went to a wedding last year where the couple actually had champagne for the head table only for the toast. Not only that, but the bar had completely shut down, and I couldn't even get a glass of water to toast with! TACKY!!!
