What would you do???(long)

This weekend I met with a woman who does invitations out of her home and I found an invitation that I liked and asked her to order it for me. The prices she gave me was comprable to other places and she did have some unique invites that I chose. Here's the problem, she called me yesterday to say that the invitation I picked out is from an old book and the printer no longer uses that invite in his sample books but he still can print them for me but the price has to increase another $120 dollars b/c the prices she gave me were old. I didn't give her any money and I told her to hold off on ordering them so I can think about this. I don't know what to do. I really like these inviattions and I tried looking for them in other stores but I can't find them or something like them. What's your opinion?

Depends on how much research you have done. If you feel like you have really sourced it in other places - then go for it. $120 in the long run really isnt' bad if you are crazy for the invite!!! Good luck!

If you really can't find anything else you like, I say go for it, $120.00 isn't too bad.

Go for it. Eventually you get to the point with all your planning when you say, 'what's another $100 !!??'

If the question here is that you do not trust this women then I saw go with your instincts and do not order from her. If the question is should you spend $120 extra on invites that you really love then if you can afford it get them. If you are on a very, very tight budget where $120 might mean you have to get rid of something else then you have to decide if invites you LOVE are worth NOT having something else or cutting back in another area.

At this point $120 dollars isn't going to break the bank b/c its already broken. Just to let you know the invites to begin with were a little pricey but I was willing to pay the $$$ b/c they were different from anything I have seen. I guess i don't want to feel like I got taken advantage of. I'm going to go back to some other palces that I have seen invitations and see if I can find something comprable.

That would make me nervous. While $120 is not a lot, can you trust her to not increase other prices down the road. A good business practice would be for her to eat the price b/c she incorrectly quoted you - or when you met with her she should have told you the prices were tentative and she'd have to get back to you. If you do trust her and you think its an honest mistake then go with her but get everything else in writing to ensure she can't do it again down the road.

I don't know if this helps but my vendor, Laura from LA Productions (a vendor on this site) can probably take the idea and custom make them for you. That is what she did for me. Call her and tell her what you wanted and she'll make a sample for you and bring it to your home. Good luck!!

P.S. I ordered the invites and signed the contract for $XXX, days later she called me and said when she was placing the order for the paper, the manufacturer told her it was on sale and she actually passed on the savings to me!!!!! I am saving over $200 for tsomething she could have kept. Just a FYI.

I don't know if I can ask her to eat the price difference b/c I didn't give her any money and the invitations weren't ordered. I guess the worse thing for her is that she lost my business if I find another invitation at another place. I'm am going to try and talk her into doing the calligraphy for free b/c the price she charges comes out to the price increase on the invitations.

Go with your gut on this one, I don't like people saying 'oops that was an old catalog' she's in the business WHY wouldn't she know the current prices on things she is selling and standing behind????? I would be weary, if I was doing business out of my home or anywhere else for that matter I would be on top of what I was selling and if it was an 'old or outdated catalog' she should of gotten the current prices or NOT have shown it to you before you arrived.

Speaking on curly2003's post, I also booked w/Laura, and she later on saved me like $60 on my STD magnets b/c she got a savings using a new magnet distributor, I had already signed a contract and had no problem with the original amount; she didnt even have to tell me she could reduce the cost.
I like an honest vendor, which I found in her. I'd be worried about someone who didn't have current prices. So in case you decide not to go with this vendor, or if you want to look around to see if anyone else can make it for you, give Laura a call. I highly recommend.
