What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?

Original post by TakingtheLongWay

I would have to say I've learned that FH's mother is seriously a crazy woman and I will never, ever be close to her. And that's fine with me! Anyone else learn anything along the way? (Doesn't have to be negative!!)

I learned that I should've listened to my mother an eloped!

No, seriously... I've learned that weddings bring out who people really are.

1. The Budget is a starting point!!!!

2. There are a million of opinions out there about my big day,,,, and EVERYONE including strangers want to give them to you

3. People are RUDE and will think they are coming to your wedding even if you havent talken to them since your 5th birthday at Chuck E Cheese!

FH & I are the best wedding planners every j/k
no but seriously we are very organized

You will notice who your true family & friends are and who are not (of course)

There is always a complainer or a rebel in the BP

I have learned :

1- My stepmom cares way to much about flowers !
2- My stepmom is crazy about flowers and the color of them
3- I don't give a crap about the color of the flowers !

1. my wedding isn't as important to anyone else, as it is to me
2. no one knows what crinoline is, let alone cares about what color I am dying it...
3. it's better to plan things on your own, or with help from 1 or 2 other people (besids FH of course) because if not, too many opinions get involved.
4. SHOP AROUND BEFORE YOU SIGN ANYTHING!
5. It can't always be about someones review, sometimes you have to go with your gut and do what feels right.
6. I am my worst critic
7. i have a new appreciation for posting :)
8. my coworkers miss me......i didn't quit, physically I am still there, mentally I am in wedding la-la land.
9. There will always be someone who just isn't happy for you....move on. It has nothing to do with you, it's their own unhappiness.
10. Black CAN be a beautiful color for a BM gown.
11. You certainly can't please everyone. If you try to, you'll wind up with a very generic wedding.
12. Any vendor who gives you lip will not work out in the end.
13. Ebay can be a beautiful thing....
14. No matter what the subject is, I can some how work my wedding into it.
15. There is nothing wrong with walking around the house with your tiara and veil.......

one.....15....same difference

1. That you dont have to spend alot to have a beautiful wedding even tho things are very expensive lol

2. be much more appricative of your friends they are doing just as much as you are for this wedding.

3. Take your BP into consideration dont just pick what U like and want...cause not everyone is gonna look great in it...lol that is the 1 thing i have told so many friends that are getting married lol . you do not want an unhappy BP!

I agree with most of you girls.

1. My FMIL is nuts. She actually told me last night that my wedding is like over the top. Dude, we're doing things on the cheap and having a standard tristate area wedding? LIke we're not even doing a chocolate fountain or photo mantage - NOTHING. Boring and cheap at a wedding hall. Before we got engaged she was all excited. I had said we'd like to just elope and she got upset since she NEEDS to see her baby get married and enjoy the day. She can't stand anyone else getting any attention is what I think. She keeps saying 'I've already been through this with my own wedding 35 years ago.' HUH????

2. S*** it way overpriced. Maybe it's a NY/NJ thing, but gimme a break!

3. Bridesmaids don't care and aren't excited. Thankfully my MOH and one (out of 4) girls are totally into it.

Re: What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?

i've learned that most of my friends arent friends at all.

i've learned that not all girls are evil (thanks to LIW!) lol

i've learned that sometimes i DO want to be 'just like every one else' and that i don't have to be DIFFERENT just to be me.

i've learned that people from Suffolk love squirrels.

i've learned that a band doesnt need to cost over 3k to be amazing

i've learned that while my FMIL is a bit crazy she loves both of us very much.

i've learned that one of my brothers understands me a whole lot more than i realized while the one i thought 'got it' has no friggin clue.

1. I don't feel like a princess in a wedding dress, i feel like an imposter (what I suspected all along)
2. I should have listened to my gut and eloped because then i'd be married by now
3. If you are not the girl who has been dreaming of a wedding your whole life, it's really just a nuisance to plan
4. we're having a wedding just to please everyone else - and because I'm afraid i'll regret it if i just decide to elope
5. I am still me and am way more excited about the honeymoon
6. I can't wait to live with FH and wish he would just move in now, but there's a teeny part of both of us that wants to be traditional
7. I've learned that falling in love with someone can completely change who you are and your outlook on life
8. Planning a wedding does not change my lack of interest in flowers
9. the best thing in the world is not having a traditional bridal party
10. the greatest thing is paying for it ourselves because we are doing exactly what we want
11. my whole family is afraid if they put their two cents in or give me their opinions I will either 1. elope or 2. call off the wedding
12. at the end of the day I'd still be happy to skip the wedding and go right to the marriage, but in the meantime I will have as much fun as I can and we'll have a kick*** party!!

From the whole month that was planning... 2 things: make sure your FI is physically there and never plan a wedding on your own. LOL

I'll def. take it for the next time (that's if FI and I don't work things out)

Re: What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?

1. being one of the last out of my girl friends to get married, they all have a ton of knowledge and are great resources! I love picking their brains!

2. my FH is picker than I am... most brides complain that their FH don't get involved enough in the planning. I love the fact that he gets so involved, but its gotten to the point where I joke that its his day and his dream wedding and I started calling him a Groomzilla!! haha

3. planning can get overwhelming, so make a to do list and just focus on one thing at a time.

I have learned 2 major things

1. Things are a lot more expensive than I ever could have imagined, yet I do not care for some strange reason

2. I love planning and enjoy every aspect of this time more than I ever thought I would

agree 100%

amazing how caught up you can get in details that wont matter the day of. sometimes you need to have a glass of wine and remember what's really important.

i've found myself pretty alone during this process so far (although my FH is amazing) and this website has been more helpful then you'll ever know!
