What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?
Original post by TakingtheLongWay
I would have to say I've learned that FH's mother is seriously a crazy woman and I will never, ever be close to her. And that's fine with me! Anyone else learn anything along the way? (Doesn't have to be negative!!)

it is mostly in good thoughts, like they are giving me advise on what they would have changed if they were to do it over again....but it drives me nuts!! but I am sure they heard the same thing when they were planning.

Re: What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?
I've learned the true meaning of compromise - FH and I don't always share the same ideas or vision but so far we've been able to meet each other half way on every aspect of our planning.
I've learned a bit about sacrifice. There are not as many nice dinners out, vacations, or new clothes but it feels good knowing that we are both working towards a common goal and realizing that those things are really insignificant compared to the big picture.

so so so true
especially the second part! I am so ashamed to say this BUT
right before we got engaged, I started to plan our annual January vacation and FH informed me that he wouldn't be able to afford it this year. I cried myself to sleep for NIGHTS after that. Well, duh he was getting me my ring!
Now I know we have the rest of our lives together - there will be time for fancy dinners and vacations later on! Now, I know this sacrifice is worth it for OUR dreams of getting a house and living comfortably and providing for our children!

I've learned that i enjoy the planning so much i'd like to get into event planning.
I've learned that you shouldn't get too caught up in the materialistics of the wedding coz thats all fluff.
I've learned that whatever ur budget is...you can expend to spend more
I've learned that New york may be the best city or state in the world...but not for a bride

Re: What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?
I learned that everyone has something to say - so ignore it
Fh's don't want to be involved with planning and will inform you of the things they want to put input with. SO therefore don't involve them.
Take your original budget and add about 2-5k more because you forget to add people on your list initially and you then have to factor in teh extra flowers due to those extra people, etc.
Don't order you dress smaller then what you can fit at that point in time. I didn't do it even though I knew I would start loosing weight after my measurements were done. I just went to the store this weekend and she told me I could drop another 20lbs and still my dress would be fine to take in - SO DON'T RISK IT.
Do not put people in your bridal party just to make it even or because you think they are a cool friend. I picked mostly family so far no worries.

Re: What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?
I've learned that planning a wedding can be a wonderful experience for you and FH. Just as someone said earlier...we have both made huge sacrifices on things we wanted for the wedding. The ability to compromise is key for a successful marriage and we have a lot of practice now!
Also...what seems to be a life or death decision (which poem to use for the bathroom basket) won't matter in the least bit the day you vow to cherish each other for the rest of your lives.
Brides need to keep things in perspective...as difficult as that is!

that everyone is entitled to their own opinion (and they will give it to whether you want it or not) but the only opinion that matters finally is ours. its our chance to do something on our own together the way we like it and want it to be.
also, all of your friends think they are going either be in your BP or MOH/BM!!! why is that???

I've learned that it's one time in your life where you can truly be selfish (in a non- bratty way) and people respect that. That EVERYONE has a different idea of what their wedding is supposed to be and it's your day & always remember that....And that FH & I are planning together the most beautiful day to start our lives together....

I'm learning to budget. Really learning what's a luxury, splurge and value.
I'm also learning what's important such as my relationship with FH and my contribution to 'us'.

Re: What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?
ive learned that the only thing that does not cost anything is STRESS....but there is so much stress in planning a wedding...
everything is crazy exspensive you say wedding and vendors say $$$$$$
the planning is fun exciting and the best people to talk to your wedding about is other brides because they understand your enjoyment in the process....
most people do not want to hear about your wedding 24/7 BUT EVERYONE HAS THEIR OPINNIONS AND WANTS
dreaming of the day of engagement and planning a wedding was much more fun then the process of planning a wedding...
i can not wait to be a mrs..

Re: What's one thing you have learned so far from planning your wedding?
I've learned that it drives me crazy when people tell me I am too young to get married. I am 24, have finished 6 years of school and have a great career. It's not like I am going out to the bars every night (or even once a month). Just because it took you that long does not mean I am the same way! (Sorry, vent over )
