What's the average wedding gift you have given/received so far?

Our estimates were WAY off - we thought one person would give $100-118, and two ppl. would give $218-$236 (doubling chai)

So not the case!!!!!! one person gave us ONE candlestick for $50, and many couples are giving us $100 gifts! What the F? Am I being spoiled?? When we go to weddings we are sooo generous!

I can't give less then $200 for the both of us.
Average we give is $250-$300 unless its a really close friend or family member.

Also the new rule is we give back to people what they gave us...
We were the first out of all of our friends and most the family to get married ( cousins and siblings that is) so it makes like easier for us

Remember, what might be a 'normal' gift amount for NY is not necessarily normal for other parts of the country. We're used to much more expensive gifts here!
Doesn't excuse someone for being cheap, but like a previous poster said - we're not supposed to be in this for the gifts! The gesture of a gift is nice in itself. And besides, its usually the people who aren't that close to you that give the 'cheaper' gifts anyway.

Yikes.......thank God even though we moved to Philly, PA we are still getting married in NY. Hahahaha.... wouldn't want to cut myself short!!!!
