nobody is trying to get to you here. just merely opinions. you have a good opinion about this. nobody is trying to fight you over this.
I think this is a good thread for once

jennbaby is there anythign else you can think about on this topic that can show us some light
cancer is so morbid, but everytime I read these situations of how cancer is in the life of one of the members here it makes me so sad..... and thankful
for my health and the health of my loved ones

Tommy, I never said anyone was 'out to get me'.

What i said was I didn't want a debate over my opinion but Christine is right, everyone has their opinion.

I asked you, how you thought is was conspiracy.

Sometime I think that may be there is a cure for cancer but it will never be revealed becasue medical industy will lose A LOT of money if people can be curred and live on cancer-free instead of recieving continuos treatments worths billions of dollars! I know it's a horrible, scarry thought but some times I think it is true! Cancer studies/chemo/oncology is a multy-billion dollar industry and it will go down under if they find and reveal the cure!

I too have been hearing of a lot of people finding out that they have cancer lately. It really is upsetting and scary.

it is very scarey that, particularly on LI, there rate of cancer is rising to scarey levels. But if you think about it, so is the amount of processed foods, additives, radiation, poor health habits, smoking, polution, 'medicines' etc. So many think our body is subjected to that no one could possibly know their true harmfull effects.

Honestly, is it was for population control, why the hell would the government waste so much time and MONEY$$$$$$$$$$$$ trying to find a cure??? Does not make sense to me.

If anything it's MANs result of a horrible lifestyle. That's the consequence!!! Just like distroying rain forests, and endangering species. We are our worst enemy. Think about that when you reach for a cigarette, lie on the couch, drive your car.............

Re: whats the deal with all the cancer lately?

This is depressing. I have known too many people who have died from various forms of cancer: Breast, Lung, Stomach, Cervical, Leukemia. From 4 years old to 84.

I know I can't bury my head under my covers, but sometimes I wish I could.

Close friend battled breast cancer at 23 and Hodgkins at 26 and survived both but lost her mother to cervical cancer

The very notion that cancer hasn't been 'cured' yet to knock off some of our population is downright wrong and very insensitive to those that have lost loved ones.

I know we're all giving our opinions here but you have to expect some pushback when making statements about such a hurtful topic.

To think my dad died at a whopping age of 57 to lower the population makes my stomach turn as well

Re: whats the deal with all the cancer lately?

I have to disagree with the theory that disease cures are not being released b/c of population control...

I put MO on the other thread that basically said there is too much money out there in the private sector that could keep a scientist quiet...

as for LI...it is sad that the rates are so high...and if you do a little research you can notice that towns with wells have higher cancer rates than towns with water towers...run off is a serious problem...

to all who lost parents

Re: whats the deal with all the cancer lately?

It's horrible, and along side Long Island in this plight is Staten Island. I wrote in Jenn's thread about my 4 year old cousin who is dying of a childhood kidney cancer, that in 90% of the cases is cureable. She's in the 10% .

There are clusters in Staten Island as well, not only for cancer, but for autism. Funny, but these clusters seem to fall in areas closest to the dump.

I am so sick of politicians sugar coating the state of Staten Island, and the denial spread around about how the dump has no effect on public health because it is contained and shut down. I find it hard to believe that something so large that it can be seen from space is 'contained' and that all of those years of garbage and sewage piling up didn't have an effect on the land surrounding it, as well as the health of the people living there.

Misty...are there any groups that are trying to fix the water issue in SI?

also...some people with cancer...don't die from the cancer, but from the treatment...this happened to a student of mine last year...I guess chemo makes you more suseptable to catching other illnesses

Re: whats the deal with all the cancer lately?

A co-worker died of cancer last year and she told me even the nurses will say it's the treatment that kills you. Your immune system is destroyed making even a paper cut more serious since your body lacks the ability to repair itself. Often you are not able to eat or not eat enough to sustain any weight which of course further weakens you. ANd on and on. Its's so awful to watch people suffer like that.

Erika, I honestly don't know. And I would love to find out. I've been searching the internet, but nothing concrete has come up. Just a bunch of studies trying to tell me that the toxic chemicals released into the air while the landfill was open had NO effect on anything.

Re: whats the deal with all the cancer lately?

Christine - I wonder though - technically, my father died from the chemo (a nasty side effect of that I won't bother to go into details with) but if it hadn't been that, he would eventually have died of pnemonia or something else from the Leukemia. So even if it is the treatment, what other options are there? Maybe that's what needs to be looked at.

Either way, you're absolutely right that it's a terrible disease I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. No one should have to go through that suffering.
