Re: Whats the most clever way you found to save $$?
We have saved sooo much money on the hall, band and photographer because we are getting married in the Winter.
Also, for my engagement favors, I went through a million websites before I found them for 5 bucks, when other places were asking for 6-9 $. We were very happy!!
I think the key thing is to shop around.

Well.. we're making her gown out of oaktag.. Just Kidding..
I think the best way to save money when dealing with vendors is two-part...
1.) If you know someone else who used them previously, tell them they were recommended by that couple. They LOVE referrals.
2.) If you haven't book.. even if you love them.. let them think there's competition with another vendor. They will be more flexible.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Using my FH to negotiate He does it as part of his job and is used to it, so he has been really great at getting everything we want

I agree with all of these.. this site ( I would have never found out about DUET!) and ebay have been great, so has craigslist.com. Also getting married in winter on a sunday gave me some bargining power.. I have gotten alot of stuff lowered AND stuff thrown in for free! I think the best money saving so far has been from DUET ( Definitly thought I was going to pay ALOT more) and my Hall - they were really great with prices and negotiating!

Re: Whats the most clever way you found to save $$?
Well, mine has NOTHING to do with vendors or ebay or anything, but what I did was tape a shoe box shut and cut a small hole in the top and I stick EVERYTHING I have left over from the week in there. Sometimes it's 5 bucks, sometimes it's more like 100 bucks, but I always add to it. And once in a while I open it to count the progress, but the great thing is that I don't have it earmarked for one particular thing. I am trying to 'forget' that it's there. I save my regular money for the wedding in my savings account, and this will just be a bonus for all of those extra little things that are going to pop up here and there. Or if I find invites that I'm over budget on or something like that.

This site, ebay definitely, the flea market where I got all my jewelry and tiara, and, mostly, doing a lot of things myself. From making the favors, to the birdcage and on and on.

i love the idea rachel!
now if only i had a job to put the extra money aside in... i use to do that and it worked real well..
the ways i saved? picked november for cheaper hall price; negotiated more stuff from my photographer; picked a cheaper dj(saved 600 off expected price); researched florists, found a cheaper on(jack and rose); went to limos.com (saved a couple of hundred) printed my own save the date will print my own menu cards, make my own cd's

Re: Whats the most clever way you found to save $$?
Plain 'ol forgoing things that didn't seem important to us....like limos. FH loves his mustang...we'll use that since we're driving all of 5 minutes from the hall to the hotel, no e-party, no favors, no video-enough people will bring their own!, no expensive gifts for the BP-just meaningful smaller gifts, David's for the dresses, doing the c-pieces ourselves....What was important? The pictures...they will always be there, the HM...it's ALL about US! and we're living with FH parents to save $$ for the wedding and for a house afterwards.
ETA: getting married in March-still kinda cheap, doing a Sat afternoon so we can party with our friends after, FH ring is titanium (only $150)-he's not a jewelry person

By making our own centerpieces and favors. Probably making our own favors saved us the MO$T money!!!

Re: Whats the most clever way you found to save $$?
oh yea... no save the dates (we had an 8 month engagement-word of mouth worked fine), no programs, FMIL is making the FG dress and the RB pillow, I'm borrowing jewelry for the day, and we are making accent decorations and using family and friend wedding pics.....
What we are splurging on...I'm surprising FH with a grooms cake, our invites were $300 for everything (that's a lot for me, but they were gorgeous), and to me, the HM is a splurge.

Yup, that is the best way I have been able to save $$ and negiotate prices.

Re: Whats the most clever way you found to save $$?
the biggest save was being a february bride! after that I thought about my fh's family and my family's talents: his sis is wonderfully artistic, so she did the calligraphy on the invites; my sis is super creative: she's in charge of favors, baskets for bathrooms and that sort of thing... thank you notes--bought nice stationary, doin those ourselves programs--ourselves... bought a gorgeous gown at davids... oh yeah, mom made my veil!!!! she's soooo great...
