Re: Whats the most clever way you found to save $$?

After I booked my church and hall I waited on the rest of my vendors, I only had about 6 months to plan so if they had my date it was pretty safe to assume they would have it in a week or so.. so I would ask them if they could do any better and in most cases they did!
-Friday Night Wedding
-My own hair lady she did me for free
-Mary Kay Makeup lady-free trials
-Commack Wedding Center - they gave me the best price for my dress and my girls dress
-My hall threw in my centerpieces which were being done by my florist anyway since I picked their house florist
-Made our own programs
-No STD's-- we had a less then a year engagement
-booked our honeymoon a month away from the date. Was able to fly to New Orleans stay there a few days, have a car rental, cruise for 7 days and fly home for less then 2000 for all.

No e-party, booked all my vendors over 2 years before my wedding, making my own menus and RD invites, brought BP, Parents, etc. gifts at different times so that I did not spend all the money at the same time, no STDs, etc.

The most important way, was that we each put money away every pay check.

Having a FI's whose parents are friends with a good client of the hall owner, getting a 40% discount on kosher catering.

Craigslist.org!!!! - Jazz trio, Photographer, probably video
eBay!!!! - supplies, favors
gigmasters.com!!! - DJ
theknot.com - referral for florist
this site - wedding coordinator
Making my own invites - would have cost at least $400 otherwise
Using non-wedding business people - Lynda Lane (makeup) works on indie films and is SO much cheaper than other people.

A LOT of web trolling!

Marcela, you know first hand that having a 2 year engagement and booking vendors so far in advance saved alot on every vendor.

Yeah Lisa. A few of our friends have gotten engaged recently and the prices they're getting (None wanted to wait more than a year to get married. )

I saved a lot of money by bargaining and SHOPPING AROUND!!!

-My dress was discontinued, so I got a deal there.

-I made my favors

- Centerpieces, vieineise -(sp?)-desert- were included in my hall THAT saved A LOT!

-Bathroom baskets were made via dollar store or walmart sample size items.

-photo and Video we used Duet

-DJ we used High Voltage Sounds

-The church we used only cost 300 dollars

-The rose petals and delivery were included in my florists cost. We used Flower Michele

-limos were my best steal! Simply on bargaining! We used Serenity Limos

-Makeup I used a Mary Kay comsultant, free trials and it only cost $40 on the day of-She came to me!

-My hair only cost 75 dollars, she also came to me.

- Our caterer was the best and has the best prices! We used sunset harbour!

- I also made my place cards and the sunflower pens on the table, and our Wish bowl!

I am sure there are a lot more things I saved on that I cant think of off the top of my head! Feel free to FM me for any more info!

PS--My wedding budget was only 10K!

This site saved me literally thousands of dollars and I'm not done planning my wedding yet. I also got my dress on E-Bay and saved $$$$ there.

I totally agree with the February thing, but in our case booking LATE really helped. We booked in early October for FEbruary and i think that with most of our vendors, if they hadn't booked already, they weren't going to, so they were willing to give us great deals.

Also we're having a small BP (Just MOH and BM) so that saves money on flowers, gifts, transport, etc.

No centerpieces--we're scattering rose petals on the table and lots of candles which CH is providing.

I found my dress on bridesave.com after I ordered it from the salon--I wish I would've ordered it from there, I would've saved about $300. But, I did find my shoes on that site for half of what I would've paid in the store.

Booking late seems to have worked out well for me, too... it seems that the vendors I have booked were pretty happy to get the business at less than 7 months notice, so I go really good deals on just about everything!

And I will also add that LIW was a lifesaver -- two great vendors I would have never known about I got directly off this site (Duet and High Voltage!)

Us too! We used our miles that completely covered our flight to St Lucia ($1600) and then used the rest of our miles toward the Sandals Resort ($900 so far)

-I addressed all the invites myself
-bought supplies for favors on Ebay
-bought Tiara on Ebay
-Sunday wedding

My dress was discountinued so saved TONS of $$$ there.

Addresed invites with own computer.

This is the best...My centerpiece will double as a favor for all my guests. Using potted plants, probably african violets or tulips as centerpiece and the guests take them home at end of night!
