The Water's Edge in Long Island City. Gorgeous view of NYC. Pricey but awesome. I may be biased though because it's where I got engaged.

The Water's Edge IS gorgeous- Two of my cousins got married there!

I've only heard good things about that place.

Every year for Valentine's day FH and I go to Miami Grand in Rockville Centre. It's a cute little art deco style restaurant and though they don't have private booths, it's very dimly lit and has a great atmosphere. The food is awesome, but the best part is that next door is the Baby Grand, a piano/cigar lounge with a live piano player and deuce leather couches that you can reserve for the two of you in cozy dark little areas. I love it!! Plan to spend around $350 for the entire evening.

I've been there with FW.. she had a few martinis.. I think I had Bailey's.. I liked it but I need somewhere she hasn't been to for Valentine's. Still a great place to recommend! Thanks!

I second Mill River Inn.
It's this small restaurant with amazing food and impeccable service.

I don't know if anyone reads Zagat, but I believe that was the restaurant with the highest food rating on LI (Mill River Inn).

Chilis?

I wish I could help, but were the kind of people that like to have a good time when we go out to dinner. Places like Outback, Rubytuesdays...etc. More fun than a stuffy place, imo.

I like Zagat's. I trust their reviews more than anyone else. I read Citysearch reviews first when I first started dating the FW to plan our dates.. but Zagat's blows 'em out of the water. And let me give you a recommendation -- if you're ever in the West Village, there's a place called La Lanterna on MacDougal, that's great. If you and the FH have a sweet tooth, you'll love this place. It's mostly a dessert place.. lit by candlelit with a roaring fire.. it's very nice. The FW loved it.

I can be happy at White Castle or Taco Bell...

Howie we picked a few good places to eat from Zagats. Thanks for you suggestion. We will keep it in mind. Do you live on LI or Westchester?

The most romantic restaurant he took me to was our dining room.

I came home from work one day, and he had about 100 candles lit all over the house, had arranged for my aunt to babysit, and had prepared a delicious dinner of broiled salmon, with rosemary baked new potatoes, salad, and my fave bottle of wine!

I knew he was a keeper right then and there!
