Re: whats the nicest thing anyone has done for you?

I was taking an american history class in college and on the second day the prof. asked us questions about a chapter in the book we were supposed to read. Well...stupid me was lazy and didn't get te book yet. And of course who does he chose to aswer the question...me. So i had to say..i could get the book yet. Well as i was leaving the class he called me up to have a chat. He said to take his book and to not worry about buying one. As i left i realized...he thought i didn't have he money to pay for the book . I still have it. And i took another one of his classes

When my mom died, this guy who I had only known two weeks stayed with me throughout the wakes, the funeral, and offered me lots of comfort and support!!! We just started dating and he gave me more love than anyone I had ever met; people thought he was actually my husband!!! He will be this September!!!!

A couple of things come to mind, both involve my dad, who passed away about 7 years ago. Both of the following stories happened when he was sick and oddly enough, involve my car.

My ex-boyfriend and I were going skiing. So, my dad got up really early (around 6 a.m.) and packed my car with those mesh/metal tracks (just in case we went off the road) and put a bag of ice-melt in the car.

Next, as my dad taught me, I always keep a box of tissues in the car. He noticed that someone had stepped on the box and it was ripped, etc. He went out and taped up the box for me so the tissues wouldn't fall out.

Actually, mine was done by an ex-boyfriend!

He had 2 cars, both of which he loved. One was a pickup truck, the other a mustang. One night he pulled into my driveway with a brand new Mazda Millenia. He had traded in his other cars in order to get a 4 door 'family car' so my son would have plenty of room in the back.

Re: whats the nicest thing anyone has done for you?

The most recent and most memorable thing that happened is, when my g-ma died in Dec of 2002. I had planned a trip to visit her in Dec, since she did not attend the wedding, (she does not fly)

I had planned to take my pix and my video for her to see. She died Dec 11, 2002 and I was supposed to be there Dec 18th.

Roger took the time off from work, stood in the travel agency for over 6 hrs to get a next day ticket, to come to be by my side in Jamaica.

I told him he did not have to come, after all he had only met her once, but he came anyway to be by my side. I love that man. He held my hand the entire time and took pix for my memories, I am so happy I have those now.

The other thing is Lizlen shared a poem with me and listened to me cry and talk, thru the death of my g-ma, she supported me and did not make me feel like I was burdening her. This is the second time she came thru for me.

Another nice thing she did was write a poem for me that was read at my wedding. Thanks Liz you are a gem.

Re: whats the nicest thing anyone has done for you?

So many people have been kind to me on several occasions.

My MOH - when my Mom passed, my sis and I went to live with my father since he was alone. IF anyone knows my history they know living w/my dad is torture to me. My Moh at that time had a 2 bedroom apt, but she is not a person who likes to live with others. She only likes to be alone, never wanted a roommate.
She saw how miserable I was and offered me the extra bedroom. She even insisted. I am forever grateful to her for being there for me and helping me through such a rough time in my life.

I also feel I have been blessed to find LIW b/c some of the acts of kindness were from my dear friends here

I didn't want to spend a whole lot on my tiara the one I wanted was $150. Shamma noticed it was almost the same as hers, and offered it to me that I could Borrow it. I was so happy, it meant so much to me.
After the wedding, she saw how much I loved it, she said I could KEEP it.
Shamma - you'll never know how much that meant to me.

Shamma has also been a great source of inspiration for me, more than she'll ever know.
She has helped me to find my way when I am beginning to be lost spiritually. That is the greatest gift ever.

Curly also has been a wonderful friend. IT's so funny the little things tht people do for you that touches your heart in an amazing way.
The night before my wedding, I realized I forgot to buy my Dad a tie. He wasnt wearing a tux, just a suit, and I was suppossed to buy a platinumish/grey tie.
Of course I forgot and called Curly last minute, she had Dinner plans, and still went for me and bought my Dad 3 ties for me to choose from.
She couldn't find me afterwards, cause I was all over the place. So she went to the hotel at like Midnight, and I still wasnt' there, but she left the ties for me. She refused for me to pay her a single red cent.

I can go on and on and on.
From latina, to R&T to just so many wonderful ladies in my life

Re: whats the nicest thing anyone has done for you?

You might know this already but before my wedding I was having a hell of a time trying to find a veil to go with my dress. I contacted a girl on weddingchannel who had the same dress as me and asked about her veil. She had bought it at Kleinfeld's for $300 but she offered to sell it to me for half that.
She sent it to me, before I even gave her money and told me if I wanted it to send her the money and if not to just mail it back.
When I got it their was a TINY little tear about a foot up on one side. TINY to the point of unnoticeable but I just wanted her to know.

When she found out she'd sent me a veil with a tear in it, she just told me to keep it. Which I thought was the sweetest thing in the world and it was such a nice thing to get SOMETHING for free at a time when it seems there's a leak in your bank account from paying everyone!

Anyway, I promised her that after my wedding I would send her pics of me wearing her veil and then pass it on to another bride on the weddingchannel board, under the condition they do the same. And after my wedding that's what I did. Veil is now with bride #4.

wow, i'm very touched by your stories.
and you have motivated me.

my brother asked me to accompany his girlfriend to her condo closing on monday & i reluctantly said yes, although i really want to go see my friends in the city & he knew it. i'm calling him right now & telling him i will happily join her at the closing & take her to lunch to celebrate too.

Re: whats the nicest thing anyone has done for you?

Wow, I've been really lucky. I'm not sure. I don't want to include family and friends, b/c we do nice things for each all the time. So, I'll think of kindness from strangers. Hmmm...

I once had a stranger stop when my car was overheated, drive 1/2 hour to get water and 1/2 hour back to get it to me. (this was before cell-phones were common)

I was being followed when I was a teen during a street fair (I was walking my dog, and was afraid to walk home). I told a women working there and the women walked up to the man following me and told him to leave her little sister alone, then found a cop to drive me and the dog home.

My first night waitressing while in college I had a young couple I hadn't met prior leave me $100 on a $30 bill as a good luck in college gift.

Random compliments and smiles on the subway have been real pick me ups on some days.

Here's an act I often commit: Next time a homeless person asks for food, take them to the local coffee shop and buy them something to eat and drink, or keep food in your bag to give. You may meet a very interesting person.

Or, if you're walking home with leftovers, give them to someone in need.

The little girl who hugged me really tightly for no other reason than I was there. I nearly cried. It was so touching.

Jim.. bless him.. through all he went through after 9/11. Dealing with me as I went through all those stages afterwards. Then to be there while I had to try to recover physically and mentally. Helping me into the tub while I was butt naked cause I couldnt get my knee to reach over the tub. He took days off work and was sure to be there all the time.

He's the sweetest man on earth. Everything he does makes me know I am so lucky.
