I don't think you want to do this one, but my Aunt and Uncle are paying for my wedding, that has to be the nicest thing.

My aunt, who got my grandmothers wedding band after she passed, decided to give it to me (out of about 30 cousins) b/c she knew how much my grandmother meant to me.

Honestly, that ring must have meant the world to her too since it was her mothers, but she gave it to me....

That was the most amazing thing.....

I have already thought about what I would do for my nieces on their wedding day probably not pay for it...but I want to buy their dress or something like that...

Two weeks after my father died, one of my best friends flew in for the weekend just to do nothing with me. We didn't do anything except talk, read and go for walks. She really just let me be me that weekend without any expectations of how I should be. She really helped me start the grieving process, because until then I was always keeping up a front. Her kindness, even now 11 years later, warms my heart.

One of my mother's close friends (like an aunt to me) always crochets these beautiful ivory basket weave afghans for bridal showers. I drooled when I saw them and always asked how I could get her to make one for me. The answer: Get married.

Over the past year and a half, this extraordinary woman has been battling ovarian cancer. Right after I got engaged (April '03) she made my afghan (my mom told me) and said that it was just in case she isn't with us for my shower.

That has got to be the most amazing thing someone has done for me.

WOW! This is a great post.....I've been blessed with wonderful friends and family who have done many nice things for me in my life but...

I was born with a birth defect that has led to many, many surgeries in my lifetime and this past May I had another (fairly complicated) one. Any costs my insurance didn't cover, my Dr. did NOT pass onto me! So she basically did the surgery for free..... She is an absolute saint!

I'm not saying it b/c they are on the boards but b/c I truly feel it in my heart. What stands out the most are the things are totally unexpected.!!!!!

For my Bridal Shower 'Latina511' stayed up all night before and made 150 hand dipped chocolate covered strawberries. I desperately wanted them but couldn't afford them so she made them for me. She also designed my wedding menu and gave me the most beautiful monogrammed throw. (Makes me cry when i think of her thoughtfullness!!!!!)

'Sassy' made frames of me and DH for my shower and made my shower menus as well as the 'Shower game packet'. I was showered by her.

Also, BEFORE I even met her, Alvatorre74 sent me a gift b/c she said I was so nice to her on this site. Awwwwwwww!!!!!!!!

Back then I was close to these girls but not like I am now. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have so many!!!! I think the nicest was my grandmother giving me her mother's platinum and diamond watch to wear on my wedding day.

Oh - and another........my mom giving up her diamond to give to me for my e-ring. It was her mothers, then hers and now mine. I'm so sentimental with stuff like this - I love jewelry with a story.

A small thing would be my hubby driving me to work in bad weather b/c he has a truck.

Sounds like we're all pretty darn lucky

I have alot, but my fav is:

A friend slept on the floor with me for a few days, in the hospital when my dad had a heart attack.

Jennbaby....I'm crying!

One of mine....FH stayed with my in the ER when my tonsil surgery opened up and started bleeding again even though my parents were there....he even helped clean me up after I threw up all the blood I had swallowed. He didn't go to work that day even though he was supposed to and didn't leave until I got a room for the night and then he was the first one back at night.

Oh..and that was before we were engaged...the other would be that FH propsed with my grandmothers' e-ring (unchanged aside from a ring guard)

Re: whats the nicest thing anyone has done for you?

a friend once paid my toll on a bridge - she was driving ahead of me.

not that that's the NICEST but it's nice.

i'm so having a memory fog. I can't think of anything.

my co-worker brought me flowers when i came back from being in medical leave in 2002.

you could go visit people at a nursing home or hospital if you wanted to. when I was in the hospital i was DYING for company.

ETA: Jennbaby's reply (which is really touching I meant to add before) made me go 'duh' because when my mom got sick very suddenly alot of my friends (family friends, girlfriends, boyfriends of my girlfriends) came to sit with me and my family at the hospital.

I think we are all lucky to have people do such wonderful things for us
