Whats the rudest thing you have noticed at someone elses wedding?

Original post by Mrs Z To Be

I mean rude in the way of the bride and groom ..(if anything)

Last november, friends of ours had a wedding out in Rhode Island....It was extremely expensive to stay, plus we had to travel three hours,a gift, and take a day off work. Which was fun, so it was not that big a deal. BUT- this ticked me off, not once did the bride and groom acknowledge our friends....even at the wedding!!! They never greeted the tables...the wedding was about 150 people. I found that to be EXTREMELY rude.

Also DH and I went to a wedding where the couple got married in march and we didn't get a thank you from them till december. At that point we had just figured we wern't getting one or they had sent it to his moms house and she forgot to show it to us. it was like so much time had passed that we had totally forgotten about it!

I've never experienced rudeness- but i heard from a friend that they went to a wedding and they stopped serving alcohol for 2 hours during dinner and dessert (with no option of a cash bar) i think thats pretty rude.....
oh this one i did witness- i was at a wedding where it was the brides grandparents aniversary and NOTHING was said- which is think is really rude- just a shout out from the dj would have been nice.

I ahve seen this twice at oot weddings. A lot of the oot stuf isn't the fault of the bride and groom- its just how they structure weddings. its kinda odd for all of us, but really common out of NY. 'd like to meet the moron that decided to structure them this way!

At my wedding, my mom was walking around to the tables and asking how everything was.

She gets to the BP table, dinner had just been served and she says 'how was everything?'
One of my Bms (a very good friend of mine for over 10 years) husband says 'ehh, it's okayyy, but not for how much you paid per plate!, I'd be annoyed if I were you'

!!!!!!!!!! First, he has no clue how much I paid per plate, Second, WHat?!! Why would you say that to my mom??!!! And Umm, if anyone has ever been to Marina Del Rey...the food is AMAZING. I still haven't spoken to him.

The rudest thing I've witnesses is:

The B & G, having a party bus for the BP only, no dates, fiances, or spouses allowed. And the place was far out east. We're all from Queens or the City. Then, the B & G rented out some cottage by the RH to drink and party...kinda wierd IMO, again ONLY for the BP, no dates, fiances, or spouses allowed. I thought that was soo rude and inconsiderate. The limo, ok whatever, but the cottage, what was up with that?!?

The invite having FH's name and then & guest really gets to me. I've been with FH for over 9 years, I don't think I'm just a 'guest'! Make it a point to find out my name if you don't know it!

that is probably the worst one. Happened to me once not long ago

The cottage I understand, but the party bus thing I did the same thing. It was BP only, and honestly i dont know why their dates would want to come. After the ceremony we took pics for over 2 hours so their dates would just be sitting there watching us take pics. Also the party bus is one way, it doesnt take people home so the smart thing was for their dates to drive to the RH so they can have rides home. DH has also been in a bp that went on a party bus and also no dates, I didnt mind and understood, there was no reason for me to be on that bus. Plus we needed a car for the ride home so even if they allowed the guests on the bus I wouldn't have gone bc then we'd have no way of getting home.

Yeah, I really didnt care much about the bus either in the end. The other wives and fiances did however, they got all worked up about it...lol..kinda funny for a few reasons. But, the cottage thing was annoying. The bride was kinda young, 22, and all her BM's were young and kinda obnoxious, all but one...immature, loud, drunk, and flirty. Oh well, I know I wouldn't do that.

its funny bc it was a request to not allow their dates by a few people. I was fine with it at first, until i had the requests so i said i cant tell a few people they are not allowed and then allow others to bring their dates bc didnt want to start problems. Two people only had asked me and I felt bad saying no. Some people were just concerned about fights amongst couples and kinda bringing the mood down.

The cottage was just for before the wedding or after? that is weird.

In the bridal suite we didnt really have dates either. My cousin brought her bf inside but nobody else did. We had 22 people in the bridal party so it was a good thing in a way bc having about 40 ppl in there plus 2 bridal attendants would've been a bit much, it was a big bridal suite but not that big haha

The cottage was so the bp could hang out after the pics were done, but before the cocktail hour. So, they were there for a couple of hours before the CH. Also, it was funny bc one of the GM got sooo drunk at the cottage, that he was slurring his words and stumbling around, really bad, before the CH even started...haha. His wife was not pleased.

I went to a back yard wedding....& the brides son (his girlfriend) knew what bride was wearing (not a formal gown) Anyway....this girl borrowed from her friend a FORMAL GOWN to wear at this backyard wedding....& it was almost a 2k designer gown....it was a big to-do...the rumors...I was livid! WHY would you purposely want to out shine the bride?!?!

Anyway...she did wear the gown to the wedding...I had to laugh...all I could think of was I won't have paid more than $200 for the dress....I don't care if it was some one-of-a-kind designer....& it POURED that day.....the yard was only covered around the tables...so she wa inside alot...not her dress....oh well.....

my cousin went around to the tables...and skipped ours...which i didnt like but we are family...and we are the same age...so i figure they wanted to get around to all the 'adults' and just figured we wouldnt care.

not receiving a thank you card is high up on my list.

holy crap!!!! What's awful. Especially since food differs by taste anyway - so just because HE doesn't like what he's eating, that doesn't mean that EVERYBODY ELSE isn't enjoying their dish. And even if he did feel that way and he just so desperately needs to express himself, then he should have waited and told his wife on the drive home. That is sooo disrespectful. Either he's an idiot lacking common sense (there's a lot of people like that in this world) or he was extremely jealous for some reason (maybe that you outdid his own wedding). Usually people put things down when they're envious.

Grrr... that didn't even happen to ME and i'm getting all worked up. lol. I just hate stupidity. i have no patience for it!!!!

that's so dumb when people wanna try to outshine the bride. it NEVER works! People only want to see the bride, they could care less what a guest looks like. And you KNOW they're just gonna get strange glares if they DO over (or under) dress, so i don't get why girls don't have the common sense to think things like that thru. I went to a simple 'backyard wedding' type of thing also and I definitely downgraded my dress. Even though I would have preferred to go all out (I LOVE getting dolled up) I still made sure if was just a simple sundress.

I agree, I wasn't going to have dates in our limo either... but then again it's only to the church and RH... there will be a shuttle home (and the dates can grab the shuttle there from the hotel).... most people do it this way from what I've seen..

Re: Whats the rudest thing you have noticed at someone elses wedding?

My FH & I traveled across the country to a wedding in CA and it was an all over disaster (the wedding, that is). First invited 150ppl and had the reception in the courtyard of a church. No biggie I thought. Then their cocktail hour consisted only of cut veggies & fruit w/salad dressing and cheese on a small (and I mean small) table. I thought to myself 'Well let me get a drink', until I realized there was no bar. NOT EVEN SODA!!! Then they didn't have salad served until 2hrs into the affair. When they brought out the entree to the main table that was it...LITERALLY! They hadn't made enough food and made everyone else wait for 1 1/2 HOURS LONGER for dinner. We were finally served 30mins before the cake. Side note, the fiance told my FH that the wedding cost $50k (on what planet?) and that's why the couldn't serve everyone steak. Okay, Chicken and/or fish at least, right? WRONG! The entree was Eggplant parmesean w/pasta, that's it! They asked their guest to spend THOUSANDS to fly in from all over and we couldn't even get so much as a Coca-Cola! what on earth is that? Oh and the cake was HORRIBLE and started to tilt and fall!

I think it's in HORRIBLY poor taste to invite what I call Peripheral ppl (i.e. college roommates and such), and not even offer a good even w/adequate food. I could've forgiven the no alcohol if they at least served something other than water. But to not even offer a soda or juice and almost no food, that was SOOO tacky!

On a bright note, we got engaged a couple days later on our side trip to Wine Country in Carmel and a beautiful resort, so that made it all worth while!

One of my BM's got married 2 months after me (she got engaged after my wedding). We brought a small gift and a card (it was a 25 person event). They came around and she said , 'Oh, I'm following the 1 year rule for your gift guys', and we chuckled together, and that was that. Last month, I threw her a baby shower.

Have I gotten a TY yet? For the wedding? Or the shower? Or the shower gift?

I have not.

I know she's busy with the baby and all, but dayum....

Oh, and I know a guy who decided he was going to put his wedding together in a week. Despite the already strained relationship with his roommate (a mutual friend who was entertaining her OOT paramour for his first visit to LI), he extended the invitation thus:

'Hey, her mom said I can't have anyone I'm really friends with there, so if you're not busy Friday, I'm inviting you guys.'

Re: Whats the rudest thing you have noticed at someone elses wedding?

My parents always talk about this one disastrous wedding they attended while i was still young. I can't remember all the details of the day, but one problem was that the bride & groom offered no food at all. It was during Lunch time so people were plenty hungry, expecting to be served a meal. They weren't at fault for expecting it, since it IS a wedding and it was right around 2:00, when most people eat lunch (esp since they were all at the ceremony directly before this). There were chips & pretzels on the tables which everybody assumed was just a little snack. And then cheese & crackers came out, which they thought was just an intro to CH. But that was it. I think they had a cheap little cake with icecream as well.
Right afterwards, i think a bunch of the guests left & went out to a restaurant because by the end they were STARVING. I just think that's sooo rude. If you're not gonna serve food, you better tell people ahead of time so that they know to eat beforehand. Plus, if you're gonna have a cheesy little wedding like that, it's fine - just don't invite a lot of people. Something like that should be reserved to ONLY family & close friends. Not OOT guests or acquaintances. I couldn't even imagine doing something like that

FH and I went to a wedding last year where one of the GM and his girlfriend in the middle of the wedding went into the bridal suite to have s-e-x. I'm sorry but that's disgusting. The groom knew and he laughed it off but the bride found out a few months later - boy was she pissed.
