what's the worst thing you've ever seen happen at a wedding?

Oh I have another one! Another wedding I was working (I've waitressed a lot of weddings), the ceremony was outside in the garden, in August, and it was so HOT.

Well, the Bride wanted everyone to release butterflies at the end of the ceremony (beautiful concept) - so everyone is holding these plastic containers with butterflies in them, for about 30 minutes directly in the sun (and who knows how long prior to that they were in the containers) - and they all DIED! So at the end as they were walking down the isle, everyone threw the butterflies in the air and they all dropped to the ground dead.

I'm sure she was disappointed, but to watch that happen was pretty damn funny!!!

how about when a bm threw up 2 times at the alter during the ceremony and never said sorry to the bride? claimed to everyone that she got sick.. but ended up drunk at the end of the night?

yup.. that happened to me at my wedding!

I went to a wedding where the grooms ex came to reception to start trouble. She broke a champagne bottle and tried to attack the bride.

Another time, I went to a wedding and the grooms ex wife tried to stop the wedding. The groomsmen had to escort her out. These ex's are nuts.

As sad as it is it is pretty funny. I'm at my desk cracking up.

At my uncles wedding...the preacher was studdering throughout the whole wedding, and eventually paused to let the whole church know 'that he was nervous'...

They were married in the brides mothers house...halfway through the vows the house phone starts ringing off the hook...one of those loud oldschool telephones.....

The photographer posed everyone for almost two hours taking pictures...The next day he called to say he had forgotten to put film in his camera?!?!?

damnh, i originally wanted butterflies before fh made me feel really guilty about the fact that they would die. but that is hysterical and sad!!!

so, it's not as bad as any of these stories, but this thread reminds me of something that happened to me.

was with my ex for a wedding down south. she was invited to be in the bridal party (a male friend of hers from college was getting married), and I was kinda flying solo for much of the weekend. It came up that I played a musical instrument in a touring band. I must have rubbed the grooms brothers the wrong way, because in the middle of the reception, they decided they wanted to play a trick on me. They stopped the whole reception, making fun of me and telling folks they had a great musician on hand- they'd tried to find the instrument I play for the day so I could perform, but instead, they had me a recorder, and give about 10 kazoos out to other people 'to accompany me. Pretty clearly trying to make a fool of me, which sems weird for someone who none of them had met before that day.

Of course, the reason why it's not nearly as bad (for me, anyway) was that I was able to sing a song instead and salvage the situation.

Suffice to say, the bride was pretty furious at those guys. And I have everyone in my bridal under strict instructions not to do anything remotely like that, and not do allow anyone else do anything like that.

i went to a wedding first off her dress was wrinkled her hair was a mess you had to bring a covered dish i could type all night about it it was awful

The worst thing I have seen is...

The groom punching his father, his father falling backwards and knocking over a table (he was now unconscious), the police were called and the wedding was broken up. Good thing it was towards the end of the night anyway. BTW this all happened in a fairly cheesy tented wedding in a not so nice backyard in Florida. The couple is still together.

Oh! and at the same wedding, the lady (server) who was cutting the cake was not wearing gloves and lifting the cake onto the plates (which I believe might have been paper) with her bare hands...I didn't have cake!

Some of these stories are really awful! I'm scared now!

I have not really witnessed anything bad in person but I guess if I had to come up with something, I'd nominate DH's first wedding! Doh!

It was in 1993 and he wore a top hat and cane!!!! And the best was the bridal party wore.... white!!!!! Even both of the mothers!!! I think it was called a snowball wedding! And I know the real purpose of the bridesmaids in the olden days was to have them dressed like the bride to trick the evil spirits but come on... 1993?! It was all about irredescent coral then!

Hmmmm......well I wasn't at this wedding but a reputable source told me this story from a popular RH......

Half way thru the reception the bride was looking for her groom. Couldn't find him anywhere. She enlisted the help of the bridal attendent who couldn't find him either. Finally the the banquet mgr found the men's bathroom door locked. He got the key and opened the door to find the groom and one of the groom's men ...... uh ...... doin it on the floor!!!!! He quickly shut the door but it was too late b/c the bride was right behind him and saw her new hubby doing the nasty with another guy!!!!! I believe the bride just ran out of the hall screaming and crying.

At my cousin's wedding one of BMs was so drunk. When it came time for the bride to throw the bouquet BM was so busy at the bar she didn't realize it was time. When she finally realized what was going on she ran over (drink in hand) and in the process stepped on the bottom of her dress, lifted up her available hand to catch the bouquet and her boob popped right out! It was so freakin funny - I couldn't stop laughing! I'm sure the video guy was pretty happy about it!

At my aunts wedding iin Ohio- we got to the reception and the DJ wasn't there! his stuff was all there, but he wasn't. So there was no one to do the intros or have music playing. So my dad- the wedding DJ from 1970's figured out how to turn the mics on, and a dj from another wedding going on came in and turned on music and my dad did the intros. Then the DJ came in wearing jeans and a t-shirt and gave some excuse. But in the end my aunt didn't pay for him. And it turned out fine and we all had a blast. but she still gets upset when it comes up.
