There is a restaurant in Philly that is run by an Iron Chef(cooking show) . I think it is called Masiharo? The owner is Mashiro Morimoto. It supposed to be really good Japanese food.

Thereis also a big Science museum that is a lot of fun. I remember walking through a gigantic beating heart. Also, don't forget the Liberty Bell.

I visited a friend there this past fall, and had kinda low expectations, but it really is a very nice city.

If you have a car and can get there yourself, I highly, highly suggest an area in the northwest part of the city called Manayunk (it even has a Website !)
It's a great area with little shops and restaurants and cafes, with a brewery along the river. It's a very popular place to go at night. ETA: According to the Website, you can get there by train from the center of Philly.

If you want to do any cultural/historic stuff, the new Constitution center was very good. Also, the Society Hill area is very pretty, lots of townhouses and a few restaurants and boutiques (it's I guess southeast of all the historic places).

But definitely don't miss Manayunk!

Have fun!

Right, the Franklin Institute. It's awesome.

The Edgar Allen Poe house is neat.

The science museum is great, as is the shopping on South Street. FM bxgell2. That's where she lives. I'm sure she'll be able to give you tons of things to do.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I spent 4 years living 30 mins from Philly. My friends and I used to go all of the time. I HATE Philly, and refuse to ever go there again. But that's just me, maybe you'll enjoy it

Philly is a great city! If you're staying in Center City (Rittenhouse), just walk from one end of Walnut Street to the end. You'll pass by lots of shops and end up in the historical area.

FM if you want specific info!

Oh, and Masaharu Morimoto's restaurant (7th and Chestnut) is great; I think it's way better than Nobu. If you can't get reservations, you can always eat in the cool lounge/bar upstairs.

I love Philly! My brother is finishing law school there at Penn. There are tons of great restaurants and shopping (if it were me I would probably spend 2 days at the huge mall there--will you have a car?). Have fun!

Philly has a great Tour Bus that you can ride on to take a tour of the city. It was really nice, and you can learn alot about the city. We had alot of fun!

ETA: here is the link Big Bus Company

Thank you! We are going to Philly 4th of July weekend (we have tickets to see the Braves vs. Philly). This has given me some great ideas of what to do.

Any suggestions on where we should stay?

i live 2 miles from center city philadelphia. although i didnt get a chance to go there as often as i liked, i think philly is a great city!! you definitely have to check out independence hall, the philly art museum, center city, south street, and penn's campus. as for restaurants....you should try Buddakan. Its sooo yummmyyy and the decor is awesome. Heck, you can go to any steven starr restaurant and i'm sure you'll be pleased.

here's the website to buddakan

I love Philly too. You can walk around and do a lot. If you are going before May 15th, the Dali exhibit is at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (the one with the Rocky steps...do we all run up those when we visit the place? LOL)

When I visited a friend, we went on a tour of the Masonic Temple, which I found really fascinating. I also liek the historical stuff, going to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. They also have a great marketplace, like a Farmer's market somewhere downtown.

As far as I remeber the franklin institute is kind of remote. If I had oen or tw days in philly I'd check out the historical sites, and I'd got o south street. SO much shopping. It's like 8th street was in it's heyday..ok maybe more commericalized, but just as exciting. There's a really great sex shop (i know, leave it to me to kow the sex shops) called 'the mood' and they have relaly nice stuff, and it's not at all raunchy in there, it's really aimed toward couples and romance, a block or two away there's its sister store, condom kingdom, which caters basically to frat boys, but it's a fun experience going in there. There are also a lof of used books store type places and palces to buy art and beads and unique stuff.

Also, this is the season of the philly fi;m festival, I don't know if it;s over or still going on, but they had GREAT stuff. I loved seeing a silent fi;m w/ a live orchestra. So much fun. It's similar to the tribeca fi;m festival.

i don't know TOO much about philly. For the 4 years FH was there, we didn't leave the room much

I love Philly. My sister lives there. Last year we were there for 4th of July and they had a great fireworks show and a fun parade. There is a French crepes resturant that we love, I will have to get the name. So many shops and bars, everyone is friendly. There is a huge Amish market.
