So, i'm engaged for 2 weeks and am planning a Sept 10 wedding.
I know that i need to get the hall and church asap just to reserve the date. The DJ i already have.
the only thing i can possibly think to get now is MAYBE photography? I know i have plenty of time but i'm also MOH at my friend's wedding in August (Hi Stef!) The dresses, flowers, and other stuff can wait till after my friend's wedding.
What do you girls think?

Re: What's too early?
At first I gasped....but then realized you're a 2010 bride, for some reason I thought you were September 2009.
You have LOTS of time to book major vendors. I planned my wedding in a year, if you want until after your friends wedding you will have plenty of time...and also get great deals as vendors tend to cut prices closer to the date. The economy is getting worse...rates will not be rising.
If you really want to save, keep an eye on JCREW and Ann Taylor celebrations for FG and BM dresses next Christmas. With the coupons and sales....you will get great deals.
Good luck and CONGRATS!

Re: What's too early?
First, congratulations on your engagement!
The rule I used for planning was any vendor that only has x number of slots should be booked asap because there may not be a slot left for you later. So, although you have time for the photographer/videographer, start looking at their websites and read reviews, and start meeting with them in person...don't be afraid to meet with a lot of vendors because that's how you'll get an idea of who's good and who's not.
Things that can wait a bit are wedding dress, tuxes, limos, flowers.
This is, of course, just my suggestion.
Good luck with your planning!!!

Re: What's too early?
Oh, forgot to mention, if you plan to register with Macy's do so ASAP...you accrue 'points' towards a future gift card on every purchase you make in the store from the time you start your registry until the day of the wedding, and then you'll also accrue points from purchases your guests make off your registry. You don't have to put a lot of things on your registry to start it, and you can make changes to it later.
I recently received a gift card from Macy's with $765 on it from these 'points'...I wish I had started mine earlier!!!
I would do the Hall/Church and then look into the Photographer esepecially if there is a specific one that you want. I think everything else you can take your time on

Congrats! I booked the hall and church like in a flash but that was because I was so excited. I would start looking at halls, churches, and I guess photographers and then BREATHEEEE

Re: What's too early?
Our resolution this year was to have our entire wedding planned by June the latest. We booked the hall, photographers, videographer, I ordered my gown, in the process of getting the BM's dresses done, etc. Its better this way so there is more time to pay off everything and to fix any issues that might suddenly pop up. Also, I want to enjoy my engagement a little, so having everything done early really allows me to just relax a bit and not become bridezilla. I say do what you can now without over working yourself. It makes life so much easier!

Re: What's too early?
I'm not sure how you can pick a date before you have you church and RH picked. After they are chosen, then I'd say you have your date...they are the 2 most important parts.

Re: What's too early?
if i were you i wouldn't book anything until you have the catering hall... that is the most important and if you really like a place you may find that you can get a better deal on a different day... we def wanted early oct and never considered halloween- we got an AMAZING DEAL because of the day...

Re: What's too early?
I'm getting married a few months before you (July 2010) and so far we have: RH, church and photo/video. The only other thing we're going to 'rush' to book is DJ. Other than that I'll probably wait until a year before to book the rest.

Re: What's too early?
I'm getting married in Sept 2010 also, we did the church and rh already. Plan to have the DJ and photographer done within the next month or so. Then we're going to breath until I start looking for dresses at the beginning of the summer.

Re: What's too early?
Yeah, I would book the church and the reception hall within the next four months or so. You already have a Dj, so then you could book your photography but only after you book the RH and church. Hair, makeup, florist, limos, and of course dress shopping can wait a little bit longer. You can look at favors and invites in late 09 early 2010. Good luck!
